Bottom line is this weekend we will need Jones AND Benson. It's not a coincidence that the 4 teams left split their carries between two running backs. I'm confident Benson can be the #1 next season with A-Pete as the #2, but on Sunday I suspect we'll see 17-20 carries from Jones, and 12 from Cedric, and that's ok. If they can combine for about 120 yards on about 30 carries, we will win this game, and that is what matters most.

This post made no sense, just like the claim that Jones is the guy that got us here. He's just a decent back, maybe a little above average, but nowhere near a franchise back. There's a reason the Bears got him on the cheap.

Wow, outstanding retort! "the post makes no sense?" so now jones is a little above average and decent. I guess ill take that over average. There is a reason they got him on the cheep. 4 years 10 million dollar deal is cheap? Such a stupid comment.

Quantify Franchise Back. Show me how Benson IS a franchise back. Show me why Jones is not. And I will agree with you. But give me statistic and not your unsolicited scouting reports.

or we can just end this and go back to hating the Saints.

Because he's the "trusted veteran" and the other veterans were mad that Benson got his job.

I'm not going to argue over this right now. Somebody asked for people to give reason for saying Benson should get more carries, and I did that. If somebody else wants to get all worked up over that statement, so be it. I did not want another RB taken in 2006, but he was. And from what I've seen, I think he's clearly better. Some people don't see it that way. Fine. Combined they are pretty productive, although Turner still struggles with sticking with a running game when it's clicking. Hopefully they dominate this game on Sunday.

Or is it because he's the PROVEN veteran that has shown he can and will run for 1200/1300 yards. While the veterans may have complained, it's still not their call to make. It's the coaches. And I've never heard of anyone being mad about Benson taking the job, so I'll have to take your word on that. But you are right. There is no point in arguing this anymore. Some guys think Jones is better, some guys think Benson is better. But both sides will be happy when either one of them gets into the end zone. So I've said all I'll say on the Jones/Benson issue in this thread.

I didn't see it. I just said that b/c I'm not a Bears fan, but I can't stand the Saints. I get tired of all the ppl. that live around here that are jumping on their bandwagon now.

I've said it before, the Saints are more of a Mississippi team than a Louisiana team. Damn near everyone I know from Louisiana are Cowboys fans it seems.

This isn't intended at you OMC, but more Saints "fans" as a group...

I am just sick of hearing about Saints fans in general and how they deserve this win. They deserve their homes back, jobs back, loved ones back, but not this win. The Saints have been one of the worst supported teams in the NFL in the last 30 years. It took the threat of them leaving town, and drafting a Heisman winner to sell some tickets and not have half of the stadium empty like every other year. Plus the few people who were there in the bad times were known for wearing brown bags over their heads because they were so ashamed to support the "Aints." I'm not old enough to remember the Bears Super Bowl win. Most of my Bears memories include losses, horrible QB's, and Favre killing us. That said I never remember seeing an empty Soilder Field. Bears fans deserve this win. Saints fans deserve their lives back the way it was before Katrina.

Yes, 4/10 is very cheap for a starting RB.

My "scouting reports" were actually solicited, seeing as how somebody asked for reasons why I thought Benson was better.

I'm not sure Benson will be a franchise back, I just know Jones isn't. He's been around for a while and hasn't done much of anything. I wasn't a fan of Benson at the beginning, but from what I've seen, I think he can fit the bill.

No apologies necessary. We're all a little jumpy waiting for this game, and we're all going to try to talk about it all week to keep us going until Sunday. Come Sunday, we'll all be cheering for the same guys anyway. (This was directed at Bears fans, but hey, if Saints fans want to swing our way... we'll take 'em. )

I think it's a coincidence. San Diego could have and should have won, and they were a franchise back type of team. There are other split RB teams out there that absolutely stink. I don't think it's necessary to split them, but it is important to get some production out of RB. So, if you have to use mutiple guys to accomplish that, then do it.

Whooaaaaaaa. Don't associate me with Cowboys fans.

Im not from the area but I remember that 50 states thing SI did where they polled people from every state to see who their favorite teams were. I remember Mississippi was a predominant Saints state. Thats why the katrina angle is a little annoying because they are also playing for biloxi and gulfport too. but no one talks about those areas.

There are also plenty of bad teams who have "franchise" backs. St. Louis, San Fran, Giants...

My point and yours is essentially the same, it's all about production. It is not at all uncommon to get that production out of 2 guys like the Bears, Saints, Colts, and Pats do rather than 1 guy like the Chargers, Chiefs, and Seahawks do.

There was more property damage in the Mississippi coast cities than in New Orleans. New Orleans is mostly flood damage, so the houses are still there, albeit abandoned. The gulf cities on the other hand are just flat, like the pictures of Hiroshima. I had a good many friends from Biloxi and that area that lost absolutely 100% of their stuff.

I heard that LSU fans don't particularly like the Saints. Am I right here?

This isn't related to your post, but I love the play in your avatar. I have no idea why Rex doesn't do more of that when the pocket closes behind him. He is quicker than he gets credit for.

True in my case, but I'm not sure about others.

I know. Look at the first cut he puts on the DB in that play. I would never argue Rex is a running QB, but that's not a move an "immobile" quarterback makes.

Plus----don't you remember the Vikings game a couple years back when Rex blew out his knee? He was running successfully in that game, and the play he got hurt on was a TD he scored by running.

I don't get it either. Kid can run if he wants to. He just doesn't.

I think he's skittish now because of the injuries. I don't really blame him.

Also, I'm pretty sure they sped up the play in my avatar to make him appear faster.

Someone from NO told me that. He could be full of it, though. I wouldn't be surprised.

I think you answered your own question with the major ACL injury he suffered.

What's the story about the Bears secondary guys?

Looks like y'all have been struggling lately. Over your last 4 games, not counting the Packers game, you're giving up 271 yards a game and 3 touchdowns through the air.

Jaws just said a stat on PTI that the Saints have had 65 pass plays this season of 20+ yards, the most in the NFL.

Why so poor lately?

About the sexiest Bear thing and Robbie getting no love from da ladies... I find that hard to believe. Robbie, go to a club anytime this week, I'm sure you won't have any problems after what you did on Sunday. Maybe he's just looking for Mrs. Right??
