Also, I don't know where the whole "Jones is a better pass protector" agrument comes from. Lately I have seen Benson do a fine job in pass protection, and at the same time, I have seen Jones completely fudge up his protection assignments.

I think this may have been more accurate at the beginning of the season, and since pass protection isn't something that most fans are typically watching, the myth has perpetuated.

I think it's just standard, trust the veteran stuff, that sticks with guys.

Awesome:

"I don't know what's sexy about being 32, married with three kids and balding," Maynard said Wednesday at Halas Hall. "It's not the status. We all have that. It's not the checkbook because mine's not the biggest. It must be personality."

"They just call him that because it rhymes," Maynard says of Grossman's nickname. "[Rex] won't show it. But deep down, this will hurt him."

My biggest worry about this game is going to be the Bears OL. Against Seattle, they struggled against blitz protection even when everyone knew the blitz was coming on third downs.

The OLine has been my biggest worry for 2 years. I'm really disappointed that they've more or less ignored it since the Tait signing. The starting RT was cut by his last team and considered to be toward the end of his career. The starting LG is another really old guy who was let go by his previous team.

I also think Benson is clearly the better back. It would be interesting to see how Ced's ypc looks if he got the opportunity to run the ball as many times as TJ does.

From what I've been seeing the past few games, there is now very little difference in the pass blocking between the two.

If it were true that Benson is the better back, don't you think the coaches would've noticed by now and started him? This isn't Dusty Baker we're talking about. He's been here long enough that he knows the offense, so it's not a matter of progression. The better player would be playing in the playoffs. Jones has gotten over 2500 yards in 2 seasons. He put together the best Bear rushing season last year since Walter Payton. He consistently moves the ball when he's in there, and yes, the pass block difference is noticeable. As a former quarterback (although not since I was a kid), I pay attention to stuff like that. But I will also admit that we're comparing apples to oranges. They are completely different types of backs. Benson has gotten a chance to prove himself this year. Maybe not as many carries as many of you would like, but it's not like he never saw the ball. He will be the feature back next year, no question about it, but right now, I'd go with the guy that got you there, and continues to play well. Maybe not great, but well. Edited by BleedCubbieBlue81

Tank Johnson raised a suspicious eyebrow at the news Maynard was the sexiest guy in the locker room: "Wow. He's bringing sexy back."

...

Gould, who got 1 percent of the online vote and is "very single," had a message for female fans who think he's sexy: "Come say 'hi.' "

They tried that, but the veterans reportedly revolted. I think Jones' playing time might be more about team chemistry than best player.

Jones isn't the guy who got you there. He's just the guy who has started at RB most of the games. He hasn't been anymore productive than Benson though. And you wouldn't miss anything if Ced took more of the touches.

I can see why the veterans would revolt after the near Ricky Williams impersonation Benson pulled during preseason. You don't walk out on your team in the middle of a game, and then get mad when your teammates rat you out to the coaches. He brought that on himself.

The "sexy" punter's runaway victory was more likely fueled by fierce campaigning by morning radio hosts Eric Ferguson and Kathy Hart on WTMX-FM (101.9).

They asked listeners to vote early and often for Maynard, who talks football on the air Mondays during the season.

It was fixed! He got the Mix's soccer mom vote.

Benson also hasn't fumbled this year. So he's got that going for him.

I know we've gone over this before, but he should have been credited with a fumble in the Buffalo game, and there are a couple of other times he dropped the ball almost instantly after his knee touched down, most recently in OT last week.

Jones "walked out" on his team during offseason workouts.

I wouldn't call working out with your own personal trainer during the offseason "walking out". Especially when those workouts are voluntary. And besides, there's a huge difference between doing that, and just getting up and leaving mid-game because you don't like your situation. And I think it's even worse to get mad at your teammates for bringing it up to the coaches.

I have not read any of this thread, but I just wanted it to be known that I am not rooting for anyone. I am rooting against the Saints though.

Thomas Jones has one fumble in twice as many carries and over three times as many receptions. He's not exactly Rashan Salaam out there.

Did you see Ditka's prediction of the game? Hilarious. Apparently the game will go into an overtime that will last for 6 weeks. The superbowl will be canceled and the Bears and Saints will both be declared champions.

Last week in OT, his elbow touched the ground, knocking the ball out. I think quite a few players would fumble the ball in that situation.

I could've sworn he fumbled earlier in the year. It was around the time he was complaining about not getting any playing time.

ESPN stats says he has none this year, and one last year.
