Nothing constructive to add. Just eww. Eww. Ewww. And ewwwwww.

No thanks to the FAs. I'm not sure we're gonna get a better CF option than Jones. Don't think that there's one avail via trade.

Eww, I think I just threw up a little bit in my mouth.

Jacque Jones should be our center fielder. Now, Bernie Williams might be an acceptable platoon partner there, but other than that, no thanks.

Steve Finley? Darin Erstad? Give me Pie over either, thanks, if Jacque is really out of the question.

Hopefully Rosenthal is just talking out of his ass here.

I agree about Jones. I wouldn't be adverse to calling up Pie by June 1. Pie will struggle offensively in his first years in the majors, but he has shown an ability to adjust that CPatt just didn't have.

Does he ever talk out of anything else?

Maybe I'm crazy but I'm ok with this team the way it is right now. The OF is solid and the infield is too if they bat Izturis 8th or 9th I see them as doing fine postion wise.

Not sure how crazy you are, but I'm not fine with this team the way it is right now, because I'm not happy with them just "doing fine". I want them to do great. I would, however, prefer the team as is, rather than minus Jones and plus Erstad/Finley/Williams.

I understand the fine thing but the lineup is solid 1-7 which is something I haven't seen in a while and Izturis has the potential to hit 300 to hide his lack of isod.

I'm not sure what Hendry can do at this point to make them great gooney unless he pulls of a major trade or finds a way to get +1 value for Jones and/or Eyre.

They might be solid. It's hardly a given.

I'm not sure what he can do either, but he's the one that brought them to this point. I'm not about to accept what he's done as the best option given circumstances when he's the one that brought about the circumstances.

Yeah, I agree. I am curious on how much of an effect MacPhail had on the past transactions though, especially the major ones like passing on Beltran.

Yuck. Those are horrible options. Might as well just keep Jones and leave him in CF. I have to say that I'm surprised that things have slowed down this much since the winter meetings. Most teams have a lot of holes to fill still. I expected to see a lot more activity, with a bunch of trades up to this point. We haven't seen much.

Product of the ridiculous market price this offseason? I agree that a lot of work obviously still needs to be done.

If Tampa goes into the season with all those outfielders and that crappy starting rotation, I will not feel sorry for them.

LA and Phily have too many starters.

And it makes absolutely ZERO sense to be looking for someone to replace Jones in CF, unless the replacement is BETTER than Jones.

Actually he's been dead-on pretty often this offseason. Hopefully not this time.

Wouldn't mind Church...but I think Jones is better?

I'm the same way..I think Id rather go with Jones who will put up more HR's and RBI's..Church will have a better OBP though..Church is the only one I wouldnt mind replacing Jones with if we have to..Hendry better not trade Jones unless we get something better in CF for him..With Jones your getting 25 HR's 80 RBI's..Thats fine with me already havinh Soriano,DLee, and Rameriez..Our lineup is gunna look good.I say just go with Jones the rest of the year.I just hope Hendry dosen't trade him for nothing like he did with C.Patterson Todd Walker Etc.

I'm picturing Ron Burgundy here:

Ron Burgundy: You stay classy, San Diego. I'm Ron Burgundy?

Ed Harken: Dammit. Who typed a question mark on the Teleprompter?

Gammons hasn't been around as much, someone has to break stories.

Except Gammons breaks stories by reporting the opposite of what is actually going to happen.

I think Jones is slightly better for the short-term, but I actually think Church is a better fit for the Cubs, then Jones, because of his ability to reach base consistantly.

Seems like once Hendry has decided he needs to trade a guy, he will do so even if he just gets dung in return. I just have this horrible feeling that he's going to trade JJ for some piece of Nefi-like crap. I really hope not but I just get that dreadful feeling.
