This could be the first time that action was actually taken against an official in any sport, at least as far back as I can remember.

Actually, now that I think of it, wasn't Crawford disciplined before for goading players and given a short leash? Somewhere around 2002, 2003. That could also explain the action.

Officials need to be suspect to the same rules and discipline that the players are suspect to. Maybe then the officiating will actually improve. NBA refs are the worst of any pro sport, and something needs to be done.

The NBA has suspended officials before, but only for a game or two at a time, and it hasn't been very many times. I'm not sure how much better in can get with the refs for the NBA-there is so much subjectivity, and usually people are watching the entire court and can see all the possible fouls (for example, in the NFL there's a lot of possible penalties that don't get noticed because there is so much action going on many different parts of the field). That makes the NBA hardest to officiate IMO.

The Pac-10 reffs in the Oklahoma-Oregon game were suspended and possibly fined for their handling of that debacle.

According to the Sac Bee, Eric Musselman was fired as coach of the Kings today. It's not too surprising as there has been talk of this for the last couple days and it happened quickly because Geoff Petrie is going to Europe for scouting on Sunday and wanted the situation figured out before he leaves.

Just heard on PTI that Larry Brown is reportedly interviewing for the Grizzlies head coaching job.

I'm really not sure if I like this or not. It seems good, but he appears to have a veteran fetish and that wouldn't meld well with our team.
