The Mavs are still kicking it out West.

Little known fact is that any team with as many wins as the Mavs have at this point have always won the championship.

Go Mavs!

They are very, very solid. I don't think Phoenix can take 'em, but we'll have to see. Advantage Mavs.

Uh-like Detroit last year, who was also 44-9 and did not win the title?

i was watching when this happened. he looked like he was in extreme pain. he was sobbing on the bench before they wheeled him out.

Yeah, it didn't look like that bad of an injury, but he was in such obvious pain on the bench. Imagine being wheelchaired out due to a shoulder injury.

That confused me, but I didn't see the whole incident. Was he just in so much pain that he couldn't stand, or something?

Link.

The Mavs also have the fourth-highest overall winning percentage, at .830, of any team at the All-Star break since 1980.

Why is that significant?

Besides establishing Dirk Nowitzki as the MVP favorite in a two-man race entering the stretch run -- ahead of two-time reigning MVP and good buddy Steve Nash -- it's worth noting that the only three teams in that span with a higher winning percentage at this juncture all went on to win the championship.

As did the team in fifth right behind Dallas.

The list:

• 1995-96 Bulls (42-5, .894)

• 1996-97 Bulls (42-6, .875)

• 1982-83 76ers (43-7, .860)

• 2006-07 Mavericks (44-9, .830)

• 1985-86 Celtics (38-8, .826)

Ok-that is true because he qualified it with All-Star Break. Detroit was only 42-9 at the time-their high water mark was at 47-9.

Nah, don't worry - Dirk can't win the big one.

Sometimes it's just a freak injury where a guy gets caught at just the right spot at the right angle. I'm not sure if anybody remembers this but Jermaine Dye broke his leg a few years ago when he fouled a ball off of himself. Guys do that all the time (the fouling the ball off themselves part) and generally just get a bruise but Dye broke his leg.

I'm not an NBA fan but I would like to see a Phoenix/Dallas final instead of some cruddy eastern team verus one of the western teams. I might even watch that.

Well, I'm sure Phoenix and Dallas will meet sometime during the playoff series-that should be a great series.

I still think the East has a decent chance in the finals, which is kind of sad considering that no team in the East is nearly as good as the top teams in the West-it's all about matchups though, and I think an Eastern team would have a reasonable chance (30-40 percent) of winning the Finals.

I believe they (east) have a chance but I would like to have seen a Phoenix/Dallas Final. Heck, they might not even meet in the Western Final but I think it would have been one entertaining final for the NBA TV wise.

Last night, the Mavs became the first team in NBA history to record three winning streaks of 12 or more games in a season.

They also extended their home winning streak to 20 games.

Re-Dirk-ulous!

and they'll STILL manage to not win the championship

Did anybody see the Shaun Livingston dislocated knee? That was sickening.

I didn't see this and hope I can avoid seeing it for the duration of my life.

ditto the Wisconsin dude's dislocated elbow. I'm glad I missed that one

I'd definitely recommend that. That wasn't pretty, I wish the local news would have warned us that was coming when they were showing higlights. :|

If Livingston went to college would he still be able to finish and get his degree for free? Imagine if this happened in college and all the money he would have missed out on. It's just a guess but I'm sure he has and will make more money in the NBA to more than pay for a college tuition due to this one contract.

Dang, Livingston is expected to be out the rest of this season and all of next season. How horrible. :(

Wow. I feel bad for the guy. Hope his surgery(ies) and rehab goes well.
