I'm kind of surprised we haven't had any interest in Huff. He's left-handed, has some pop, and can play a corner OF spot.

From ESPN.com talking about available free agents: .... and Aubrey Huff, the only player out there who can market himself as either a corner infielder or outfielder. Huff's numbers the last five years actually blow away J.D. Drew's. So he is suddenly a major target in Texas, Baltimore, Colorado, Pittsburgh and other places. And he could still wind up back in Houston.

Huff in RF with a Murton/Jones platoon in LF and Soriano in CF would almost make it so I could live with Izturis.

1. Soriano CF

2. Murton/Jones LF

3. Lee 1B

4. Huff RF

5. Ramirez 3B

6. Barrett C

7. DeRosa 2B

8. Shortstop position.

I'd love to have Huff!! Why hasn't his name come up before?

:?:

3-year splits:

Huff: .276/.342/.463

Drew: .293/.415/.532

Mabye he has an edge in durability and flexibility, but to say that Huff's numbers blow away Drew's is just a flat out lie.

I'd have some interest in Huff, but I'm not sure what kind of deal he's seeking.

I don't know what metrics they're talking about, and don't want to take the time to look them all up, but here's their OPS the last 5 years ('06 first):

Drew: .891, .932, 1.005, .886, .778

Huff: .813, .749, .853, .922, .884

Unless they meant to say "four to five years ago, Huff's numbers blew away Drew's," I have no idea what they're talking about.

If Huff reverts back to '02/'03 - sign me up. If we get Huff from the last 2 seasons...meh.

I used to be on the Huff bandwagon but clearly he isn't the same player he once was. Where did all his power and avg go? Looking at his numbers he wreaks of somebody who used steroids and stopped.

I brought him up in another thread a day or two ago. I like him because he gives you flexibility if (god forbid) Lee or Ramirez goes down with an injury. You can easily slot him in at either of those positions for awhile.

Sign Huff, move Soriano to CF and the Cubs would have a very solid line up.

Soriano

DeRosa

Lee

Huff

Ramirez

Jones/Murton

Barrett

Theriot

I've decided to stop putting Izturis in the line up from this point forward. It's better for my own health.

But, again.... I think the Cubs will be using the money it would take for someone like Huff and applying it to pitching.

Huff's numbers blow away JD Drew's the last 5 years? Did I miss something?

No, but JD Drew did.

Playing time.

A - Drew missed a lot of '05, but played almost 15 more games than Huff last year.

B - I'd be very happy with an .891 OPS and 145 games next year.

If you're going to do that, at least put Murton second and don't platoon him with Jones. And I'd never ever bat Huff in front of ARam.

The quote was that he has been much better over the last 5 years. The only thing Huff has on Drew over the last 5 years is playing time, which is all they could possibly be using against Drew.

Huff- 717 games

Drew- 598 games

Assuming Jones is getting the bigger percentage of at bats in a platoon with Murton (more RHP than LHP), is why I put DeRosa 2nd.

Aramis seems to like the 5th spot in the order more than 4th. Or is it just my imagination?

We could sign Huff and then trade for pitching, couldn't we?

Do we still have the interest in Westbrook?

Do we still have the interest in Westbrook?

Apparently everyone except the Cubs front office.

Actually, except the Indians front office if reports are to be believed.

Fair enough.

Signing Huff or trading for Church are about the only realistic moves for the OF that would make me happy at this point.

I've always liked Huff - his numbers may have slid a bit but he's still very solid. Plus he's very tough against the Cubs, OBP = .500 (!) and OPS over 1.000 in 24 PA.

So is Soriano even an option in Center? That's where I originally thought they planned to play him, but I haven't heard anything about it for a while.

Also, isn't Huff somewhat of a butcher defensively? Do we want him in right?

Huff is indeed a butcher in the OF.

He was also hitting better a couple years ago and appears to have taken a step back.

They aren't using a metric to say Huff has been more productive. They're using run production numbers:

Huff (01-06): 129 HR, 428 RBI, 377 Runs

Drew (01-06): 99 HR, 327 RBI, 371 Runs

# of games played in that duration:

Drew: 707

Just sayin.
