Now that the meetings are over and Meche has gone to the Royals it is time for Jim's other plans. We still have a spot in our rotation that is unsettled. Here are the likely options:

Fill it in house- with Marshall, Guzman, Marmol, Mateo, Miller, and Prior all in house someone may be able to step up and pitch well at the back of the rotation. I don't like this idea as much because Hill is still kind of an unknown and having 3 unknown spots is a little to much.

Sign Zito- I don't think this option will happen, but he is still out there and the CUbs seem willing to spend plenty of money right now.

Sign another 2nd-tier guy- There is still Suppan, Mulder, Weaver, Marquis, Batista put there. I think that the best option would be Suppan who has been above average and durable the past few years. Batista and Marquis may come cheaper, but they both have there flaws.

Trade- Westbrook and Jennings don't appear to be happening. Penny and Hendrickson from the Dodgers could be out there. Depending on the price I would like a move to get Penny. Lieber and Hudson are said to be on the block and both would make good mid-rotation starters.

All of that being said I want trade for Hudson, if that can't be worked out sign Suppan. Hendry will most likely sign Marquis or Batista I believe. What do you guys see from here on out? Who would you want to get?

Extend Zambrano

Touche my friend Touche. That would be the best money spent all offseason

Things that need to be done before the season:

-Sign Suppan or trade for Penny

-Trade Marmol for Church

-Get another power hitting bench player

-Get a better SS

-Extend Z

Things that I would like done but probably won't:

-Bonds

IMO Suppan or Penny are the only options for SP right now. Colletti is kinda crazy and would probably ask for Ramirez and Z, so Suppan might be the more realistic option. I'd gladly take Suppan on this team. Z/Suppan/Hill/Lilly/Miller-Prior is a solid rotation.

What would you guys think of a deal with the Phillies where we send Jones and Eyre for Rowand and Lieber? It seems to make sense from both sides.

I'd rather have Jones than Rowand. I'd rather sign Suppan than give up Eyre for Lieber.

If Peavy is remotely available, go all out to get him.

What do you think it would take?

I dunno. If they really are disillusioned with him and think of Young as their #1, maybe we don't need to sell the farm. I'd pull no punches trying to get him though. You want Hill? Sure. Pie? Veal? Murton? None of those guys are off limits.

Gotta get a pitcher that at least has a chance to be a top of the rotation arm. It's still Zambrano with Hill as an unproven and 2 #4-5's at best in Lilly and Miller.

I think Hudson has a shot to be a solid #2 again, like he has been in the past. Jennings was a legit #2 (can argue ace) last year with a 127 ERA+. Westbrook has a shot to be a #2 like starter. Zito, I flat out don't like, but he could be in this group, although he will be paid like the best in the NL.

Without another big bat coming in, I'd really be hesitent to deal Murton, but, yeah, I'd probably give up much of that to get him.

I'd give up a lot more for Cabrera.

Jacque Jones should interest them too. I'm sure they want something in the way of big league talent coming back.

I wonder if they would be interested Jones, Veal, and Patterson? Get an OF which they need. Get a stud LHP. Get a future 2B to replace Barfield.

Braves get: Jones(5)+Dempster(5)+Hill+Izturis(4)+Mateo

Cubs get: Hudson(6)(all of contract, 6,13,13))+Renteria(11)(all of contract)

with the deal for Soriano the braves may be looking to reload with prospects/rebuild this year- this deal saves them a ton of money inthe long run- I hat to give up Hill but this deal puts us in contention-Deal Marshall for Church or just sign Lofton-sign Floyd

RF-Soriano

SS-Renteria

1B-Lee

3B-Aram

LF-Murton/Floyd

C-Barrett

Z, Hudson, Lilly, Marquis, Miller/Prior

We could fill it with Jennings too.

Per Rotoworld.

Jason Jennings turned down the Rockies' improved three-year, $24 million contract offer, making it more likely that he'll be traded.

Jennings could go to the Astros, with the Rockies looking at Willy Taveras, Dan Wheeler or Jason Hirsh. The Blue Jays and Mets are also believed to have interest, with the Jays perhaps offering Reed Johnson. Teams previously mentioned in connection with Jennings include the Twins, Rangers and Cubs.

Actually, I don't think that's a very optimistic blurb.

Oh I know, I'm just saying it appears that Jennings is still an option, after it sounded like he was off the trading block.
