Hendry undergoes angioplasty.

Wow, I'd think he be out of play as far as offseason dealings are concerned. Does Hughes take command?

The article says he's already working the phones, so I guess not.

Yeah, but an angioplasty? He can't be 100%. Working the phones could mean anything. I'd hope for his sake (and partially for our sake) that Jim backs off a little here. That's some serious stuff. Let somebody else handle negotiations and have them consult with you for direction.

My Dad had the procedure done two summers ago and recovered fairly quickly. He also talked about how he could breath far easier and just generally felt better. Its rather routine nowadays, I guess.

I know it is, but being a GM involves taking calls at all hours, negotiating million dollar deals all day long and balancing a bunch of issues at once. It's highly stressful under normal conditions, and even more so when your job is on the line.

For the sake of his health Hendry really does need to go on a diet. Sometimes a scare like this is what it takes to get the person focused on the more important things in life such as to live.

Agreed 100%. No more "I'll get to that diet later..." "I'll eat better tomorrow..." I pray he's going to be smart, relax, and take some time off.

Wow. I almost feel bad for talking so much crap about him. The guy is spending himself to death. I hope he gets well soon, but maybe he can work a blockbuster sympathy trade for ManRam.

Donut jokes are offlimits now

what about hospital jello jokes?

There's always room for jell-o.

There's sugar-free jello too :)

Hendry undergoes angioplasty.

I don't wish Hendry ill, not even as a joke, but he better recover so he can stand behind what he has put together.

So if he were to die you would be mad that he is not around to take the criticism? Ridiculous.

Some of us may not agree with Hendry's signings, trades, and philosophies but if the 2007 Cubs fail it will not be due to lack of effort on Hendry's part.

Maybe this team will recognize how hard Hendry worked for them this offseason and return the favor on the field.

I'm willing to bet that he has some heart arrythmia (sp?). Probably had a low oxygen level in his blood, and the Docs ran a few tests on him and found reason to check for blockages. Probably failed a stress test which prompted the reported angioplasty. With HIPAA regulations, we'll probably never know, but Jim is probably working himself to death. He should relax a little and improve the diet.

All speculation, of course.

How fitting that the "Sausage King of Chicago" knows all about cardiac procedures...

I don't think that a generalized opinion on how hard the GM worked in the offseason is what really drives most baseball players to play winning baseball.

No but it may prompt Eyre to whine less about running laps and getting in shape. It may inspire pitchers to field their position better i.e. cover first base properly. It's something that just may cross the mind of every player that Hendry brought here and give them one more reason to leave it all out on the field next season.

Get well Jim.

Even though he has made some terrible decisions in the past few years, he is working his ass off this offseason to make this team better.

My dad had the procedure done 20 years ago when it was new. He's about to celebrate his 91 st birthday. I think Hendry will be fine. 8-)

My uncle pretty much the same thing. It is amazing what they can do these days. Glad Jim has insurance ;)
