An article in the Suntimes talking about trading Jones while looking for a lefty bat.

Also mentioned in the article- Theriot can play all OF spots. Theriot for CF? I like the kid but that's a weak offense.

The Cubs are also trying Eric Patterson in the OF.

Since when? Not this year in AA or AAA or in the AFL.

It was mentioned in today's Tribune.

Sorry for jumping on you there, you are correct they mentioned it the possibility, I mean they've thrown the idea around before, but this is the first time I've seen a quote from someone important about it. But he's also not played CF at all in the last couple years...

On Mike and Mike this morning they mentioned the Rangers going hard after Barry Zito and said the Cubs were in the bidding as well.

I don't believe for a second that the Cubs are serious bidders for Zito. I think the Cubs have become this year's Yankees since we've thrown around so much money. All the agents are using us to hike up the price for their client.

Could be. Or people are just guessing Cubs everywhere to try and be right because the Cubs are throwing around so much money.

I was listening to Mike & Mike a little while ago and they said Rangers or Mets for Zito.......no other serious players. No mention of the Cubs.

Musta changed their tune because they specifically mentioned the Cubs earlier.

I hope this is only temporary. If it's not Patterson just lost a lot of value as a prospect.

If you read the accounts of Patterson's AFL stint at The Cub Reporter, Arizona Phil says that Patterson looked MLB ready on offense but totally lost at Second Base. He suggested moving Patterson to the OF and he made some convincing arguments.

According to ESPN 1000, Bruce Levine is reporting that Cubs GM Jim Hendry is looking to try and bring in Ryan Church of the Washington Nationals for left-handed bench help. Hendry is also considering Darryl Ward as a possible move.

Not for the bench though. Kid with those numbers should be playing everyday or at least be on the positive side of a platoon. But then again if we trade Jones that just might happen.

This makes me very happy. I though there was no way Hendry would consider Church.

Co-sign...for both players.

I'm not interested in Ward, but would definitely like to see Church.

I wouldnt lose control of my bladder or anything if we got Ward, but he'd be a decent guy for the bench.

He destroyed righties last year and put up 800ish OPS against them the two previous years. I don't think hes the answer to all of life's questions, but hes definitely a significant ugrade from Mabry.

In Jayson Stark's latest update, he says he believes Lugo will sign with the Red Sox by the end of the meetings.

Lugo, however, prefers to play short. Which seems to indicate that the Red Sox are the favorite to sign him. The Cubs could clear a spot at shortstop by trading Cesar Izturis. But they're focused on starting pitching first. So they're not likely to move fast enough to keep Lugo from going elsewhere.
