just for fun i went to retrosheet to look at game 2 of the NLCS 2003. prior threw into the eighth inning after the cubs were up 11-0! You wonder if that could effect his stamina for his next start. maybe it did, i dont remember that game. thanks dusty

btw: it should be no surprise that pierre went 4-3 four times on his way to an 0-5 that game. i bet he hustled though.

I remember being pissed that he was still pitching. And not surprised about Pierre.

He needs a good DL partner. Kerry Wood may not be on it anymore moving to the bullpen and all.

its so much more clever to make dead-horse jokes about him.

Is it too early to file the Schmidt DL jokes? I'm sure sick of them. The guy has averaged 30 starts for 5 consecutive years. Hell, he's only pitched 10 fewer games than Zambrano over the last five years.

I remember that well .. when he came out in the 7th there were plenty of howls from fans in my section - Prior should have been in the shower by the end of the 6th.

In the postgame press conference I remember Dusty defending the move, something like "I didn't see McKeon taking out his starters, and we saw how fast that team can put up runs in game 1." He may as well have said "I have little faith that my bullpen can hold a 10-run lead."

I'm really glad Dusty's gone. How many managers blow a World Series and an LCS in consecutive seasons?

Cruz and Alfonseca could have gone the last 3 innings of that game and we'd still have won. The extra 40 or so pitches Prior threw sure would have come in handy in Game 6.

what did prior do to deserve crap again? Other than destroy his shoulder trying to get the Cubs to the world series in 2003?

Come on dude, he's obviously babying his "golden" arm so that he can make a bunch of money when he's a FA. Because the more he's out and the more his "golden" arm is preserved, the more value he has. Just look around, his value has sky-rocketed the last couple years!!!

What a crock. If he stays disabled for 3-4 more years he's going to make a bunch of money? It's much more likely that someone will offer him the Wade Miller/Scott Williamson contract of $1 million for 1 year. He sure doesn't want to get back to pitching great baseball for a few years and then hitting the $80 million over 5 years contract.

I don't think pitch count was the problem in game 6 :(

It would have helped to have a little more snap in the breaking ball, or a little more jump on the fastball.

Unfulfilled expectations + numerous setbacks + team sucking + perceived unpassionate attitude = fans unfairly turning on Prior

that last one kills me - unpassionate like when he beaned Bonds and then stared him down? Give me a break (I realize you are not saying that but that others believe it).

This thread has taken a strage turn, but anyways, I'll just say this.

I have never seen any reason to doubt Prior's passion or his character. As far as I'm concerned, he is simply battling a lingering issue -- one possibly brought on by poor management and/or poor medical attention.

I think he babies himself too much, and flinches at the first twinge he feels anywhere along his right arm. And this can indeed cause real problems down the road. It's a lot like a football player trying to play at less than full speed. You're trying to avoid injury, and in so doing.......you get injured.

Like when he went back out after injuring his shoulder. Or when he returned from a broken elbow?

Hadn't heard anything about it. I wonder if Bruce Miles would like to discuss this.

I've heard Bruce isn't always right. Can this be confirmed or denied?

PM CT. He's the authority on who is to be believed...

I see...

This is interesting because Marky Mark is a West Coast guy, so he might be able to offer some insight to Schmidt, who appears to have a hangup over leaving the West Coast.

Probably not going to help much, but hey if Prior is trying then I think that's great.

Yeah. I still have a favorable view of Sammy wooing Moises here. Alou was big in '03 and '04.

I don't, I thought it was between the Cubs and Yankees with the Cubs getting Alou and the Yankees getting White.

Don't know much about this guy, but "Night Train" Lane on XM175 reported earlier this afternoon that quote: "The Cubs are believed to be the frontrunner for Schmidt's services."

If this is true, could it be an issue where other clubs seemingly backoff like with Zito? I know there's still interest out there for Zito, but I've heard many teams say they basically aren't going to bother because they believe the Mets will pay anything to get him. Just something to throw out there, especially give the way the Cubs have spent this offseason.
