Given the conference record of the Saints, however, I think it's more in the Bears interest if Dallas wins that game.

Rex has disintegrated more than I could have even imagined. He can't move the ball at all now. He's so in the tank that he can't even complete a pass. They'll give him one more game to get it gear if that. A half like that on MNF and it will be the end.

I dont know what the problem is. Turner? Grossman's brashness? I dont get it. He was phenomenal early in the season, now just junk. I think he needs a mental break.

It doesn't help that the play-calling is so aggressive, but I agree wholeheartedly. It's really the tale of decline, and it's not because it's against good teams.

However, I STILL don't see the point of starting Griese. Change the game plan, keep Rex on a leash, whatever, but Griese still shouldn't start.

But the QB situation combined with the Harris injury has me very, very close to the panic button.

I'm less worried about the Harris injury. I love Tommie, but we have a good DT rotation.

The Grossman thing boggles me. Maybe he need to be motivated/head cleared by a Griese start

but I dont believe Griese will carry this team anywhere

That Harris thing is scary. If he's out for the season this defense will suffer. We're already struggling mightily up the middle.

Believe it or not, the Bears can clinch a first round bye with a win and a Cowboys loss against the Saints.

Current Standings (Conf record in parethesis)

Bears 10-2 (8-0)

Saints 8-4 (7-1)

Cowboys 8-4 (5-3)

OK so all the teams have 4 games to play. Next week the Saints and the Cowboys play each other. The winner is in the drivers seat, the loser is in trouble. So assume a Bears win next week, the Bears clinch at least a tie for the bye week with only tie breakers that would do us in because either the Saints or the Cowboys will lose.

So if the Cowboys win (and Bears):

Bears 11-2 (9-0)

Cowboys 9-4 (6-3)

Saints 8-5 (7-2)

So the Bears would be up 3 games over the Saints with 3 to play, but cannot clinch because if the Bears lost out and the Saints won out, the Saints would have a better conference record (10-2 vs. 9-3)

If the Saints and Bears win:

Bears 11-2 (9-0)

Saints 9-4 (8-1)

Cowboys 8-5 (5-4)

In this scenario, the Bears would be up 3 games over the Cowboys with 3 to play, and would clinch a bye because if the Bears lost out and the Cowboys won out, the Bears would have a better conference record (9-3 vs. 8-4)

But, should this scenario the conference tiebreaker record for the Saints would be improved, and HFA might be tougher to clinch.

That said here is the scenario for next week:

IF THE BEARS WIN AND THE COWBOYS LOSE, THE BEARS CLINCH A FIRST ROUND BYE

So Basically the Bears have to completly crap the bed to not be the #1 seed. 2-2 against the Rams, Bucs, Lions, and Packers should get it done. I'm hoping (with the realistic teams) the playoffs look like this...

1. Bears

2. Saints

3. Cowboys

4. Seattle

5. Giants

6. Carolina

He's still in his first full year starting so he's young. He's played more games this year than in the previous three combined. He's going to have good games and he's going to have bad games. This is why, at the beginning of the year, I didn't like when the media was going nuts after Grossman's first few games and were annointing him the next great QB in the league. It wasn't going to last. Now, the media has pulled a 180 and is ripping Grossman after a few bad games. He's not as good as he played those first few games and he's not as bad as he's played the last few games.

Which leads me to Tony Romo. He's the media golden boy right now but you know that won't last. I doubt it gets as bad for Romo as it has for Grossman but as Romo proved today, he's going to have off games. He won't finish the year with a 110 rating.

As for benching Grossman, I think it will happen but I'm not sure if it's the best idea or not.

I disagree. Look at what happened since Mike Brown went down. Teams were suddenly able to run on the Bears. Now it gets even worse with Harris gone. Did you see the way Minnesota was able to run the ball after he left the game? It's frightening to think about.

Yeah, some of the facts just aren't fitting this convenient hypothesis that Rex just "sucks."

It's all mental. Kid's got the skills, just needs to get his head right. Trouble is, with all the screaming I question whether it's even possible to focus and get back to where he needs to be.

I really, really feel all this negative media is having an effect. I understand you've got to be able to deal with it, but still. Would be nice to see some more focus on the fact that the Bears are the first to clinch, and have the best record in the NFL. How often has this happened?

I think a lot of what happened today can be chalked up to really hard weather that Rex was not ready for and bad play calls.

He really oughta get prepared for cold weather in Chicago then.

I hear it gets cold here this time of year.

And the cold is more of an advantage for the Bears than for their opponents...

they were before and after he left. its no secret, you put 2 guys on Harris, 2 on Tank and you can run up the middle. Rivera needs to adjust to this.

You missed the point of my post. I wasn't comparing the play of the two QB's and I wasn't ripping Grossman. I was comparing the media's reaction to each of the QBs' play. If Grossman comes out the next four weeks (assuming he's still starting) and turns out four solid games, the media will love him again. On the year, Grossman has been an average QB. He's had good games and he's had bad games. He's a young QB and those types of things happen.

I'm not sure if benching Rex will be good in the long term but the Bears can't have play like that from the QB position. I'm not sure what to do because I'm perplexed. How could you be that bad when you have been so good? Don't get it.

Nah, I'm not really responding to just you. It's the whole general thing. Everyone seems to be saying that Rex just doesn't have it and never did---that he's just a terrible QB who couldn't ever get it done, yada yada.

Certainly lately he's stunk, but I saw the kid play really good too----and I don't think those teams were just letting him beat them for the fun of it.

Sprained knee, those often turn into torn ACL's on monday, don't they?

"This looks a lot worse than what the pain is," Big Tommie said reassuringly after the game, a walking cast wrapped around his left leg. "I don't really have any pain."

"It was just when I was trying to get that burst, recovering and running," Vasher said. "I think the weather had a little bit to do with it. I just felt a little strain. I don't know the severity of it, but hopefully it's not too bad."
