I'm rooting for the Hogs big time!

strange situation for them. two points either way to the fourth ranked team could mean the difference between a BCS game and the Lampshade Bowl.

A similar thing happened to Tennessee in 2004. We made it to the SEC championship with two losses (I still have a little hate for ND for knocking Ainge out for the year in our loss to them) and outplayed Auburn but still lost and dropped from a BCS bowl to the Cotton Bowl. We went on to demolish TAMU in the bowl.

Funny how the Cotton bowl is considered an inferior bowl. When I was a kid it was one of only 4 bowls on New Years day and it was a big one. The Southwestern Conference champ would go and play an at large. I remember Joe Montanas(really Notre Dame) comeback against Houston was a Cotton Bowl

Yeah, the Cotton Bowl was the last bowl left out of the BCS-I have no idea how it became such a minor bowl so fast.

The Cotton Bowl was the bowl that ND won in 1993 opposite FSU's Orange Bowl win to push the national title to the hands of the voters. The voters naturally used the head-to-head logic and voted FSU, who lost to ND 6 weeks previously, as champs. Up until the BCS it was one of the major bowls.

It appears that LSU has the inside track of getting to play Michigan in the Rose Bowl.

Link.

Rose Bowl CEO Mitch Dorger seemed very interested in LSU in an interview with Louisiana Gannett on Monday and pointed out some advantages LSU has over Notre Dame without being asked.

"The BCS in general doesn't like rematches," Dorger said. "They strongly encourage against rematches."

Dorger said Michigan is a lock for the Rose Bowl should USC beat UCLA and thus advance to the national championship game on Jan. 8 in Phoenix, Ariz., against BCS No. 1 Ohio State. Michigan and Notre Dame already played this season, and Michigan won 47-21 at Notre Dame on Sept. 16.

"We are mindful of the outcome of that game, and that will be considered in our discussions," Dorger said.

He was less diplomatic concerning a possible USC-Notre Dame rematch in the Rose Bowl should USC lose to rival UCLA on Saturday.

"The USC-Notre Dame game was not very close," he said. "Why would you do that again?"

and then this...

Should Arkansas beat Florida, LSU would likely replace the Gators at No. 4 in the BCS standings. This would give the Rose Bowl a No. 3 vs. No. 4 BCS match-up if it selects LSU to play Michigan.

Asked by WSKR talk show host Jimmy Ott if he would like such a match-up, Dorger said laughingly, "I'll let you answer that."

I would love it if LSU were selected for the Rose Bowl!

I wouldn't say it's that bad. Doesn't the SEC #2 automatically play in the Capitol One Bowl? That's the most lucrative non-BCS bowl. Even if I'm wrong on this, assuming that LSU is in the BCS, I can't see Arkansas slipping below any teams other than Auburn and Tennessee (who would go to the Capitol One and the Outback). So then Arkansas would be in the Cotton Bowl, which is still a solid New Year's Day bowl game.

That would be a very exciting game.

In any other year I'd be ecstatic for ND to go to the Rose Bowl, but this year there is obviously just no way that it makes any sense. But a rematch of the "Cheerios Bowl" in 1992 with Florida in the Sugar Bowl would be fine by me.

That's the matchup I want to see. I don't want to play Michigan or USC again, but I would love to see an ND/Florida matchup in the Sugar Bowl.

To my surprise, NIU is headed to the Poinsettia Bowl to take on TCU. There's no doubt in my mind that the only reason NIU is headed to a bowl game is because of Garrett Wolfe alone.

I want to go to the papajohns.com Bowl, just to see what the trophy looks like

it comes in a pizza box... you have to open it to see what it looks like

oh yeah, the trophy will also be overpriced, and you'll be able to get a significantly better trophy for a cheaper price from any non-chain, Italian-owned pizzeria

I don't think their pizza is that bad. I do remember back when Papa John's was just starting to build their name, their pizza tasted better than it does now. Even now it's adequate, but you can get two pizzas at someplace like Brother's for the prize of one at Papa John's. It's really not worth buying from PJ's unless you are buying for a huge group - if I remember correctly from a Special Olympics pizza party, the price goes way down if you get ten or more.

Regardless of that, Domino's sucks. Brooklyn-style pizza? Come on. You know what style of pizza they eat in Brooklyn? NOT DOMINO'S. I've found that you can get better pizza from local pizzerias than the big chains, and a lot of the time it's cheaper too.

The best "NY Style" pizza in State College is at Dino's out at the mall.

Otherwise I prefer Hiway Pizza to anything else.

Never been to Dino's... I live in Houserville so it shouldn't be hard for me to shoot over there and try it. You ever go to the buffet at Hi-Way Pizza? It's awesome... I love buffalo chicken pizza. When I win a gift card for stuff at Dante's Restaurants (won playing poker), I usually just end up using it on a Hi-Way pizza buffet.

speaking of poker, I played a free tourney at Quaker Steak and Lube last Thursday (thanksgiving). Lots of fun. I came in like 19th out of 50 or so. Top prize was a seat in the QWK Rock tourney (whose winner gets a seat at an Atlantic City tourney). They do free hold em' every Monday and Thursday night. Cheap beer specials too (pints of Yuengling for $2)

I've been to a couple of them, and I did want to go on Thanksgiving since I was stuck in town working, but my shift started at 9:30, so I couldn't play. Some of the people there are hilariously bad. I saw somebody call an all-in with 54 on a flop of AAQ. Anyway, PM me sometime if you're going and if I'm going to be there, I'll look for you.
