The key questions so far...

1) Are there options? Are they player or team options?

2) Can he handle CF?

3) Is there a NTC?

For #2, the Honorable Bruce Miles said with some certainty that he would be playing RF.

Are they committed to J. Jones in CF or is that just smoke and mirrors?

Sorry if this has been discussed. Heh, considering the thread size I'm sure it has.

I am going out on a limb that Hendry finds another checkbook and signs Drew as well...

  Would be great, but I'm still in amazement that he spent the money to get Soriano, so I'm afraid to get too optimistic.

Unfortunately, you failed to provide any facts to support your argument. Last year 162 games of Soriano was >>> than J.D. Drew. I think we need to stop assuming that age automatically equals decline in production. Soriano is only 30 years old. It is possible that he can continue his better numbers over the next few years.

I didn't assume a decline. You're right I didn't use EqA to justify my claims. Oh wait...

At some point we have to look beyond the stats. I don't care what they say, only having a player 2/3 of the season a a premium price isn't acceptable. The you start dealing with unknowns like when the player is going to be injured, which part of the season will you be missing your high-priced production. The stretch run, the playoffs?

being risk adverse won't help you win in the playoffs.

Would it then be fair to assess the expected CPIB (consumer price index of baseballplayers) to be about 4.5%? My excel is broke, but using that, could some one create a present value of the last few years of Sorianos contract assuming no money deferred and its not front or back weighted? Off the top of my head I would say in the last few years, his contract will be the equivalent of about 13M/year. So then the question is, do you think Sori will be as good then as Sheff is now. Its an interesting way of looking at things. Of course that would mean that Sori would actually have to improve.

Woohoo, my brain is as smart as Excel!!!! Seriously, life and especially work is debilitating without Excel. God, that is nerdy.

Ummm... did you miss third grade math class?

12.49 rounds down to 12.

You were way off.

I dunno about you guys, but I didn't see anything about the Red Sox interested in Soriano, but I did see them looking at Lugo and Drew.

Only because Theo knew all 32 GMs wanted Soriano so he just decided to go with plan B.

There weren't any rumors that he wanted Soriano when Drew hadnt declared for free agency.

2) Bruce and Lou say hes playing right

3) word was that it was a no trade clause for the first 5 years, which is stupid because after that he can invoke the 10/5 rule to block any trade.

I posted this before, but Kaplan said on SportsCentral last week that Hendry loved Murton, but he was almost certain that Jones would not be with the team in Spring Training.

Thanks.

Soriano not playing center really hurts the overall value of the deal for the Cubs. Replacing Juan P is a lot bigger then replacing Jones.

Well, if things don't change, Soriano did replace Juan P.

Speculation is that he'll be traded (as per his rumored request/desire) and someone else will be still sought for CF. In fact, Sweet Lou said on the radio that they're still looking for someone for CF.

Is it possible that Lou realizes what Jones' splits are, and would consider a platoon with Murton? Not that Matt's that deficient againstr righties...

Im a math major.

12 ! = 479001600

:D same thought occurred to me when I saw that.

Anything is possible. Heck, the Cubs just spent $138M on Soriano. Anything could happen.

Rob must know C++: != is the not-equal operator.

Many languages use that in place of

Whenever I switch languages, it's one of the things that I always have to look up again.

There werent any rumors that Columbus was looking for America but that seems to be working out for everyone, now doesnt it?

Surveys are nothing, but I did think this was interesting....

We at ESPN.com surveyed 20 general managers, assistant GMs, and assorted scouts and personnel people for their takes on six hot stove questions of interest. Here's how they responded:

Question, Alfonso Soriano or Carlos Lee?

Responses: Soriano 19, Lee 1.

math > c++

Syntax > math

Given the spacing in the original quote, it was clearly meant as a "not equal" operator! :P

What about the maps that had NA on them that were written in the 2nd century?

thats why math theory >>> computer science

spaces dont matter

means like 10 different things![/b]
