None of these seemed worth starting their own thread over:

- Mariners listening to offers on Sexson and Beltre

- Astros interested in Woody Williams

- Yankees may sign Rich Aurilia to multi-year deal

- Many interested in Jason Jennings, including Cubs, Astros, Twins and Rangers

- Rangers asking availability of Tim Hudson and Horacio Ramirez

- Angels interested in Freddy Garcia

- Indians want a backup SS in exchange for Westbrook, but aren't high on Ronny Cedeno. Cubs may trade Murton to the Tribe if they upgrade with Soriano in LF.

- Ray Durham seeking 2 year, $18 mil deal

- Giants have offered 3/$30M to Pierre and GMJr., and will sign whichever accepts first.

- Ted Lilly drawing interest from a dozen teams including Cubs, Yankees, Giants. His agent says he can get him a "4/$35M today"

- Astros may try to get Clemens to re-sign as a closer, especially if they trade Lidge

Well, then, take Izturis!

From MLBtraderumors

Tracy Ringolsby of the Rocky Mountain News has overheard a few possible offers to free agents. He says that J.D. Drew is "expected to sign a two-year, $30 million deal with Boston." It makes sense for the Sox to pay an extra $2MM or so annually to keep the years down on this deal. Meanwhile, in a separate article, Larry LaRue writes, "Boston has offered J.D. Drew a huge contract - and Lou Piniella's Cubs have matched it

If the Cubs got Drew and Soriano..I dont know what the hell i would do

The Rotoworld people are ridiculous. There's nothing in the Sun-Times article they reference about the Indians not liking Cedeno or Murton possibly being used to get Westbook.

Pierre's speed should come in handy getting to the Giants' GM first.

Is that the Florida Gonzalez or the 8th inning hero Gonzalez?

Florida Gonzalez. 8th inning hero Gonzalez retired this season IIRC.

He retired in May, but he recently un-retired. Doubtful as to whether or not he'll sign a big league deal anywhere, let alone a 3 year deal.

Westbrook for Izturis would be a total steal for us.

how does young, talented outfielder (murton) = back up ss?

Probably the same way a GM can be so pleased with a middle infield of Izturis/DeRosa.

Think outside the box, abuck. Outside the box.

i think it's a case of "we'd like a backup SS, but heck, if you want to give us Murton, who are we to complain?"

Well if Hendry, as someone suggested, was saying how happy he was as a way of touting Izturis, then Cleveland is simply trying to get Murton for less by saying that they're only interested in a position which the Cubs obviously have nothing to offer them.

Obviously I meant that Hendry is thinking of new, creative ways to make this team worse:

"Hmmm, I currently employ no less than five players who could, in a pinch, function as a back-up shortstop. How about I give them a cheap, young, productive and improving starting left fielder instead? Eureka!"
