My roommate said someone on the YES Network board heard on ESPN Radio that the Yanks and Marlins are discussing a Humberto Sanchez and Melky Cabrera for Dontrelle Willis swap. I don't how reliable the source is so I'm taking this with a grain of salt, but I just thought I'd post it anyway.

Calling Jim Hendry!!!! We can beat that with our eyes closed!

I just scanned nyyfans.com and they're not talking about this. Have to wonder if this is legitimate or just cubs.com type of stuff.

It could be fictional. I doubt the Marlins would give up Willis for just that.

That would be an awful trade for the Yanks. If Willis is actually available and the Yanks want 'em, Hendry needs to get in there and pick him up so we can spin him off as the centerpiece in a trade for ARod.

I have a feeling that Hendry will be involved with getting Willis if he's available. We all know his history with Florida, and I'm pretty sure the Marlins would be interested in Pie, just need to figure out what else they'd want.

Probably Gallagher or Veal and another arm.

There is no possible way there is merit to this rumor. Any team in the majors can outdo that supposed offer.

Eh, I don't know why everyone thinks Cabrera sucks. If anything, he's very average. He did have a .8 isoD this season, and his OPS+ was 100.

He had the luxury of being in the best lineup in baseball. He saw a lot of good pitches.

Maybe he doesn't "suck", but he's certainly no trade centerpiece.

He's a corner outfielder, a .750 OPS and .111 IsoP are pretty awful.

Yeah, Melky is basically Murton, or rather, a little worse.

Nothing outstanding.

Murton>Melky

Yes, but not by a great amount. I was just trying to say that Matt should be the weakest link in the OF. We don't really need another Murton-type player out there.

Florida got more in every trade they made last year, and they covet Willis much moreso than the guys they traded last year.

I don't see any truth to this rumor.

Agreed. There's no way the Marlins pull a 180 and sell Dontrelle that low. Dontrelle's overratedness will net them a much more handsome package when they decide to sell.

I would highly doubt the Marlins deal Willis without getting a P of Sanchez's caliber AND a full time major league CF. Cabrera is not a CF so I don't see that deal happening.

That also describes very closely the 2006 incarnation of Brian Giles.
