"No question about it," Sosa told the Chicago Tribune on Friday. "I am clean, and I always have been clean. There has been a lot of speculation, but they don't have no evidence. So you take it from there. They haven't been writing a book about me doing this or doing that."

I want to believe he's clean and always has been clean but I wish he would stay retired and keep quiet. "They don't have no evidence"? "They haven't been writing a book about me"? C'mon Sammy. To me, when he says things like that it just confirms the doubts about him.

I would like to Sammy return to majors leagues as DH for some team and hack his way to 30 homers for two more years and then retire.

Wasn't there an incident in the Dominican with him where he had somewhere around $75,000 stolen from him? Apparently it was a brown paper bag filled with 75 grand. This has been a while, I think pre-1998.

Anyone else remember this or am I just going crazy?

i've heard that story. doesn't mean he was using it for anyhing bad. and even if it did, it could be for lots of things--cocaine, prostitutes, whatever. hope that cheered you up.

I just have a vauge memory of it, was curious if my mind was just playing tricks on me.

Not many good things come form 75K in a brown paper bag though.

I'm with you guys.

I think it goes.

Guy 1: "Well i'm voting for yours truly!"

Guy 2: "Well, I'm voting for yours truly too!"

Guy 3: "Well...I'm with you fellers."

The Coen Brothers are awesome.

Sosa has a valid point. There's never been any evidence linking him to usage. Other than his sudden increase in performance, there's been nothing but circumstantial evidence linking him to using PED's.

When I make this point to anyone that's not a Cubs fan, I am shouted down with a barrage of numbers (which, BTW, were put up during Sosa's prime years).

I would like to believe Sammy and I'm going to until I hear something that suggests I shouldn't.

I believe this was more recent than that. Also, I doubt that would have anything to do with steroids. There's no reason for him to be spending that much on steroids, even the highest grade ones, at once. The same goes for HGH. He'd be buying a VERY long-term supply...

He was probably up to no good with that money, but I'd bet that it wasn't PED related.

Sammy was one of the guys that pulled Bonds into the steroid team. McGwire, Sosa and Bonds all juiced up on HGH IMO. Look at Sammys skin was he was younger and after the juice, you can see the pimply crap on it.

What, Sammy forced Bonds to do what he did? Please.

The only incident that ever occoured with Sosa and PED was when Manny Alexander (Sosa's best friend on the 1999 team) got busted with steroids in his car.

Bonds himself admitted that he was jealous of the attention Sosa/McGwire received and that turned him to the dark side.

So, Bonds childish jealousy is sammy/mcgwire's fault?

Remember that one year Manny hit 40 homeruns?

Their fault, not directly. You watch guys cheat and having the pride/ego Bonds has it got the best of him.

Because, of course, anyone who uses steroids becomes a superstar slugger.

The Alexander types are the only ones that MLB ever catches.

Leave Sammy alone. Sosa rulez.

It was fun watching Sammy hit the Home runs. I enjoyed it. I just think he juiced. I also think the beaming that he had effected him too and added to his decline.
