This thread is ridiculous. You want zero part of JD Drew. He makes Aramis look like Charlie Hustle. Have fun with his 50 non-DL missed games a year.

Wolf,

You may know the answer to this: Did LaRussa and Drew have some kind of relationship issue? It seems to me that I remeber something along those lines, but I could be wrong.

LaRussa loved JD when he was playing, but when he'd miss so many games without being hurt enough to go on the DL and when he'd sulk silently in the dugout or in RF Tony wasn't always happy with him. There's good insight on his and Tony's relationship in the book 3 Nights In August.

I know this has little bearing on our discussion, but is anyone else impressed with the sheer whininess of Ned Colletti? Gee, Ned, Boras made it pretty obvious to you that Drew was deserving of more money, then you never called, and now you're surprised that he's leaving, and you'd like to chalk it up entirely to a lack of integrity?

You're an idiot.

Ned Colletti is garbage.

Anyone heard an estimate on what Drew would be looking for? 5/50? I assume he opted out for a longer deal.

With Boras I wouldn't be surprised to see him start out negotiations at 5/75

He won't get that much though

i thought he had 3/33 left on his deal? im assuming he'll want something like 5/65

O.K. I thought he was 3/30. I figure 5 years will be key and your number sounds fine to me, they need him.

If they don't want to pay Aramis more than 13 a year, I don't think they would want to pay Drew that much.

I bet Aramis is more than 13 a year, it's probably the length of the deal that's the holdup, I'm guessing.

i don't wanna sign this guy anymore. not worth it. go cheap and really suck for a couple years, trade off our decent guys, then try and give it a go.

Meh...

If you're going to be trading away assets, might as well use the money effectively. Sign some additional high-end talent, then trade it away at the end of the season when you've eaten some of the risk of the contract.

That is a good idea. Start renting players and trade them in for good young talent. I like it.

Who would you rather have roaming CF: JD Drew or Carlos Beltran.

Career:

Beltran .281/.355/.492

Drew .286/.393/.498

Both have had some injury history, Drew more than Beltran.

Beltran has 5 years left on his contract at like $17.5 per and is 2 years younger so he will be back on the market at 35. Drew is 32 and a five year deal from now should be pretty enticing, heck a four year deal looks good. At $13M he is $4.5M cheaper and the 5th year is basically free compared to beltrans contract. I would do 5/65 in a heart beat.

Well i guess i dont see it that way or the way this guy describes him. A few meaningful quotes...

"We certainly had our differences. We talked for two years about him disappearing before games and hiding from the media glare that comes with being paid like a big star. I told him I thought he lacked passion and he said it was a long season and it was more important to pace his emotions.

I challenged him repeatedly, prodding him to show more life, contending the team's most talented player — if fired up — could raise his game another notch."

Thats right raise him game to like um.....Barry Bonds #s?? How silly.

"When the Dodgers got swept in the playoffs, the fans made it clear they weren't enamored of Drew's lack of production. He received more boos than cheers as the season came to a close.

Dodgers executives and Manager Grady Little had let it be known they weren't pleased by Drew's measured approach to the game, Little at one point instructing him "to strike out" to maybe make him more aggressive at the plate."

Should i even consider making a comment on this garbage........um no.

This article seems like a roast job. Drew said he would be back for 3 more years. He opted out but not necessarily out of the Dodgers. It doesnt even sound like they wanted to pay him more per year or consider it. They are equally at fault if he doesnt return. He's worth more per year than 2 years ago because of the market, it is the Dodgers who dont want to step up to the plate and be aggressive. Screw them.

From what I understand Drew is a very religious guy and tends to be a loner. I get the feeling he doesn't really trust anyone given his entry into the profession.

That neither makes him soft nor a bad player.

It's TJ Simers. You'd be better off listening to the opposite of everything he writes.

And JD Drew isn't friends with the LA media, especially the newspapers, so they don't going to like him much.

Cubs.com has a rumor that Cobs made a 4yr $60m offer to Drew at 12:01am. Source was an LA radio station (grain of salt)

Wow.

That's a sweet deal for Drew. I don't know many other teams that would match that in per year, maybe an extra year though for less money. If this rumor is true, than I am very pleased with Hendry today.

I kinda doubt it's true, but if it were I'd be absolutely thrilled if we signed Drew.

Checked the mentioned station and it was in fact LA's ESPN Radio (710 AM). The poster also had like 700 posts so it doesn't look like he's a random newbie troll. He also mentioned they said that it could be done by tonight, and that yesterday they said ARam wasn't coming back for sure so to take them with a grain of salt or something.
