What's with ppl and their assumptions today?

Pardon me for assuming you had another account previously.

It's not my first account.

The assumption you made was that I was banned, not that I had an account previously.

I did have an account and I deleted it. I was not banned and no, I will not tell you who I was. Some of my personal info was on that account and I enjoy my anonymity on message boards. That's why I deleted it.

seeing how this was his origional post on your joining date, and that it doesnt seem to have been edited, i'd have to assume that you did a little editing on your own while quoteing him

I didn't do that. Another poor assumption.

so, he didnt edit it(it would be noted at the bottom of the post) yet after being quoted by you it changed from 21 to 6...i wonder how that happened...either way i dont really give 2 ant turds and am removing myself from this segment of the conversation

Hey, everyone ... this is already over 20 pages in premium, so if we could keep the discussion on Aramis' contract situation, it would be appreciated. Thanks.

But I was so enjoying the inquisition!

Yeah, keeping on topic...it's hard enough to hide this stuff from the boss without wasting my time.

Can we just sign Aramis for his friggin 16 million or so? He's clearly worth that in dollar terms due to this ridiculous market. Then we can finally turn our attention to getting Neifi back in a Cub uniform where he belongs.

from the Cubs standpoint they are comparable. from the players' standpoint they are not at all comparable. to say Ramirez might have signed an extension earlier because Lee did is a non-sequitir. Lee and Ramirez were not in comparable situations. Your statement is incorrect. I'm not saying Ramirez wouldn't have signed an extension, but using Lee's extension as an example of a similar situation is not at all accurate because you are looking from the player's standpoint.

You clearly don't understand what comparable means. It does not mean exactly the same.

I brought up Lee because of the statement that free agents never sign early.

I'm pretty sure I know exactly what comparable means. In this case, their situations are not comparable.

There was no incentive for Ramirez to talk to the Cubs about an extension or new contract leading up to his opt out year.

There was no incentive to listen to an offer last winter/spring? I doubt that. There is always incentive for a player to talk about an extension.

More guaranteed years and more money is incentive enough. If Ramirez suffered the same injury Lee had, or had a down year, he wouldn't be in line to get the monster contract he'll get this offseason. That's why guys will always listen to offers.

Listen and sign are two completely different things. If you sign early, you are essentially betting against yourself and robbing yourself of the opportunity to play the open market.

How many talented athletes like Aramis Ramirez who are close to the best at their position have the type of ego that is going to bet against themselves? Not many, if any.

The only way this deal gets done early and avoids the open market is if Hendry makes such a large offer that Ramirez is willing to give up the opportunity to miss out on being a FA.

So does that mean D. Lee has no confidence in himself? Players routinely sign before going to free agency.

No, it doesn't mean that. Lee is a different person. I don't know about routinely, but, yes, clearly some players sign an extension before being a FA.

And, clearly, other players forego signing an extension to hit the open market. It depends on the player, their individual situation and the advice he is getting from his agent.

You have taken the position that Hendry failed to even talk to Ramirez about an extension because he had foolish faith that Aramis would stay. What kind of evidence do you have that that was his reasoning? Did he say something somewhere? He may have. I don't read everything.

Isn't also possible and perhaps more likely that there were other reasons why Hendry failed to sign Ramirez before the season started?

My biggest gripe was giving him the opt out and a no-trade clause. That cost the Cubs some leverage. If he didn't have the no-trade clause, Hendry likely could have forced them to the table in July with the threat that he would be traded if an agreement wasn't completed. That would have prevented this chance of him leaving without the Cubs receiving anything for him.

Threat? Such choice words from the GM of a last place team.

But, that's pretty much my gripe as well. I sure hope this opt out stuff doesn't become a trend. It appears to give the player too much leverage.

Yep, Ramirez agent 2 - Cubs front office 0

wow...they were touting him pretty highly the past few seasons.

Not this past season. All the talk out here was how disappointing he had been. Rob Quinlan took over at 3B for the most part and they were very happy with what he did, but he's not the long term answer. Unfortunately, Aramis would fit in very nicely in Anaheim, er, I mean Los Angeles of Anaheim.

if the cubs loose aramis, they might just loose this cub fans money for a few years.

i'm not saying he's worth 15 mil. but hes' the best we've had @ 3rd since ronny. find a way to make it work!
