According to Peter Gammons, Ramirez ,along with Soriano and Carlos Lee, is looking for Beltran money.

I wouldn't want to give that to any of those guys, but if I had to, then Ramirez would get it. He's the youngest, and has been the most productive over the past 3 seasons. Soriano might get a boost for playing a premium position, but he's not a good defensive 2B, and he might not be able to handle CF. It's not a lock, like Beltran.

Beltran money for Everybody~! \:D/

The annoying thing about this is Beltran signed that deal after his age 27 season. Lee and Soriano are both going into their age 31 seasons. He got a 7 year deal. Those guys shouldn't get more than 4 if they want that kind of per year deal.

It's GMs like Hendry, who don't pay attention to the fact that guys peak between 26-28, that would make a deal like this.

the real annoying thing is when Ramirez leaves the local papers will smear him as greedy, while the blame really falls on poor management and leadership in the front office- Ramirez did a lot and was extremeley productive as a Cub and will not deserve the criticism if he leaves, he's just making the best business decision for him and his family-maybe the Cubs should have made a better "business' decision 2 years ago- Nice opt out clause morons-

Carlos Lee...Beltran money? HAHAHAHAHA. Are you kidding me? Ramirez, I would seriously consider. Soriano, maybe. But not Lee.

I'd be hard pressed to give Lee 8 per for 3 years.

A contract worth 4-5 times as much?

Uh... no.

thats what i'm saying, i dont blame Ramirez for trying to get every penny he wants- i was saying how unfair it is going to be when the papers try and sway public opinion that he is a greedy bastard that doesnt care about the Cubs-

Kaplan gave an Aram update on WGN radio tonight. He said Aram wants to come back to the Cubs, but is using his leverage to suck as much money out of the Cubs as possible. He thinks a deal will be done by Friday.

oh god, when aramis does resign his every miniscule fault is going to be magnified even moreso than it already is due to the huge amount of money he'll make.

the fans are gonna treat him like they did sammy and latroy.

Sammy put up godly numbers and was loved until the numbers stopped coming. Latroy? He deserved what he got. Ramirez hasn't really been a target of the boo birds more so than any other player the last few seasons. Let's see if his leg injuries continue to be a problem along with his hussle before he gets booed. I think a lot of peolpe on this board are over reactive to way the media portrays players.

Unfortunately, I think a lot of us are naive to the power that the media has over the average fan. We are definitely the minority in fandom.

you just wait. aramis is gonna sign for 13m a year or something and become the new scapegoat of the cubs. the media already hates his lack of hustle, they're gonna hate it more when he's the face of the franchise.

I don't think Ramirez becomes the face of the Cubs if Lee has anything close to another 05 type season.

I agree. Idiots like Rozner are going to tear him apart the second he doesn't come through "in the clutch" or something. They'll point to his salary and claim an already "lazy" player became complacent after signing his big deal.

The odds of that happening are remote.

Yeah, no kidding. The Lee issue has really moved to the backburner in discussions, but going into last season, he wasn't a real good bet to repeat 2005. Now, a year older, after a terrible injury for a hitter that ruined an entire season (even though people maintained it was largely harmless and he'd recover quickly), we might be looking at a guy who puts up a sub 900 OPS in 2007. Quality numbers, but not superstar numbers. His OPS+ was 177 in 2005, the next highest number in his career was 135, at age 27. If he's much below his 2005 numbers, the acquisitions will have to be that much better, just to improve upon the weak 2005/2006 offense.

I think you will be looking at something more like 6 years 100 million. 13 million a year is a pipe dream.

Shouldn't the offense improve no matter what Lee's numbers are? By that I mean at his career norms. The guys we had taking his place were just awful. Lets not forget he made some serious adjustments prior to 2005 which was why he had such a good year.
