Sorry in advance Jon

I don't think it can get any worse for Northwestern this week after what MSU pulled on them last week.

It'll be different since Michigan won't have any problem running the ball (especially after Roach's injury), but they should still run short crossing patterns at least 25 times during the game.

If Bacher, Peterman, and Rees are healthy, though, it'll be interesting to see what they can do on offense.

I wonder with the Big Ten being down if that is going to hurt Michigan. Man I wish there was a playoff.

The Big 10 may be down but its hard to say that they are completely down with 2 of the top 3 teams in the country.

I mean depth wise. Michigan and Ohio State are very good teams, it just brings me back to the old days when they were always 1 and 2 and the rest were like this year.

Finally, a win that could get Missouri some respect and shoot us up in the rankings. Of course, we'll hear the "they didn't have Peterson, so it's not that impressive" statements. Mizzou by 2 scores.

Splitting the two-step hurt the margin for error in this two game stretch(v. OU, @ Nebraska). The crowd should be great, OU plays only it's second road game of the year and it's first without Peterson, and Mizzou has wiped out every opponent it has played at home. Plz win Mizzou.

I still can't believe we lost that A&M game. That's gonna bother me for a long time.

Same here. I hope there's a huge turnout on Saturday. If we got 64,650 for homecoming on a crappy day, we should be able to match that if not exceed, especially since the extremely early weather says partly cloud, upper 50's. I want a rocking crowd there on Saturday. I just wish it wasn't at 11 in the morning.

Navy's Navy. The Middies will hang in early (due mostly to the fact that their running attack lessens the amount of possessions), but ND will win by about 20.

For those who may be wondering, this is why ND-Navy continues to be played annually, per Wikipedia:

Despite the one-sided result the last few decades, most Notre Dame and Navy fans consider the series a sacred tradition for historical reasons. Notre Dame, like many colleges, faced severe financial difficulties during World War II. The US Navy made Notre Dame a training center and paid enough for usage of the facilities, with federal tax money, to keep the University afloat. Notre Dame has since extended an open invitation for Navy to play the Irish in football and considers the game annual repayment on a debt of honor.

Ball State and Miami are two of the worst teams in the MAC, but the Cards are a little less worse. I expect Ball State to improve to 3-3 in the conference.

So if Navy didn't help them Notre Dame probably wouldn't be around? I hate Navy now by association ;)

Arkansas has won its last 3 by a 120-20, and that will just get worse this year before they go into their final stretch against SC, Tennessee, MSU and LSU.

If Alabama did the same exact thing as the Razorbacks have do you think they'd be #14? No way would they IMO. It's like all the press watched the USC game and wrote them off until they win their 9th or 10th game.

Alabama went 10-2 last season. There was a lot more certainty about th e level of play Alabama would put up than there was for an Arkansas team that went 4-7 last year with no wins over meaningful opponents.. They went 4-7 with a lot of high quality, extremely young talent and a lot of coaching turnover, and were really competitive against a lot of good teams (3 point loss to Georgia, 2 point loss to LSU, 3 point loss to SC), but they still didn't beat anybody last season. I don't blame anybody for being skeptical at the jump. Think of it this way. Auburn was 3 weeks ago. Arkansas was unranked at that point. They've moved up to 13/14 since then. I can't really see it as disrespect at this point. I think they should be ahead of LSU, but besides that, I think they're right around where they should be.

I'd like to say that I considered putting the A&M/Baylor game into the "good" category due to the Bears' less embarrassing play so far this year, but they still wear Baylor on their jerseys.

True road test for PSU this week at Purdue. The Lions looked horrible against the Illini ("Lousy" was the word Paterno used over and over) and with two road games coming up (Purdue and Wisconsin), we'll see what the team is made of. This could be an 8-4 team. This could be a 6-6 team. Depends on whether the team gets its act together or not. Seems to me that the team is just not getting any better week to week. Not sure what's up.

Random Arkansas babbling, ignore if you choose. Basically just externalizing my thought process.

This is probably the most talented overall Arkansas team I've seen since the SWC days when they put Wayne Martin, Steve Atwater and Barry Foster into the NFL over the course of a couple of years. Over the last decade or so, they've been solid and competitive, but haven't had that upper end talent to push them to championship caliber. Even when they won the West back when Stoerner, Lucas, and Cobbs ran the offense, they haven't produced a lot of NFL talent. Shawn Andrews, Matt Jones, and Ahmad "Batman" Carroll are the only first rounders in the Nutt era. I suspect that will be changing soon.

The Hogs are a very young team. Most of their major contributors are freshmen to juniors, and only 19 seniors look to be departing after this season. Of the current batch, without predicting anything for the freshmen, I feel like there are 8 to 10 NFL players on the squad:

RB Darren McFadden, So.

RB Felix Jones, So.

OT Tony Ugoh, Sr.

WR Marcus Monk, Jr.

CB Chris Houston, Jr.

DE Jamaal Anderson, Jr.

DT Keith Jackson Jr., Sr. (haha)

LB Sam Olajubutu, Sr.

* FB Peyton Hillis, Sr.

McFadden and Jones are two of the most explosive and dangerous backs in all of college football. I don't see any way McFadden stays past his junior year if he stays healthy. Jones would probably stay for one season as The Man , even though FR Michael Smith will be getting big-time carries by that time, most likely.

Ugoh's stock has been steadily climbing this season, and has been the best lineman the Hogs have had in years.

Monk is a giant, lanky receiver with good hands who can snag just about anything. he suffers a little for playing in a lesser passing offense (especially last year when the pass offense was horrible most of the season), so he has to avoid the periods of drops like he had against USC. He's got an NFL body, and a rep for great hands developed over the next two years could propel him into the late first/early 2nd rounds despite his lack of blazing speed.

Anderson is a converted wide reciever (which I find hilarious, really) who is now a 6-6, 280 pound defensive end. Has an NFL body, plays smart, and moves well. Not a huge play disruptor type, but a very dependable type of player with an NFL build who will almost certainly play at the next level.

Jackson (yes, the tight end's son) has gotten tremendously better over his Arkansas career. Arkansas hasn't produced a lot of dominant linemen lately, but they do manage to create a number of solid, dependable types. KJ is one of those. Short, round, and effective. Not a high pick, but will probably advance and play.

Olajubutu may be the best LB in the SEC, but at 5'9, 225, probably can't play a regular LB in the NFL. He'll probably get picked up in a late round or as a free agent and become a stud special teamer.

Hillis is a wildcard. He was the featured guy in his freshman year until he broke his leg. Since then, he's been surpassed by McFadden and Jones as the primary backfield residents, and he's had a hard time finding a role in the team now, which is a shame, because he's an excellent receiver out of the backfield (led the team in catches last year). He caught five balls against Ole Miss, so hopefully he's finding his role. He's got the skills.

You can now return to your regularly scheduled actual football discussion.

Honestly, I've been quite impressed with the Razorbacks. I do think your looking at a couple more losses (UT and LSU) though I think the LSU game is very winnable and you could pull it out over us if McFadden and Jones run wild.

Really though, this season is why I thought the great desire to fire Houston Nutt was kind of odd. He's a great coach who had some problems after Auburn and LSU picked things up. I don't think there's any reason to fire Nutt, especially after this year.

the big issue with the Nutt-haters is basically that he took over a program in limbo, and after two losing seasons, they were still basically in limbo. There have also been a lot of people questioning his play calling and conservatism offensively. For the most part, though, he seems to get a lot out of lesser talent, and you'll never hear *him* say his talent is lesser, but the recruiting base for Arkansas leaves it usually in the upper botttom half of the SEC schools. I think the only thing that might shut those people up is if they can climb to the top and hang around, eventually bringing in some top out-of-state recruits and play the role of perennial powerhouse. With their youth and their current performance, they're in position to open next season ranked, possibly as high as top 10. That'd be new.

I also think that Wisconsin is probably a top 15 team. I dont think it really makes a difference at this point as the winner of Michigan and OSU is going to play in the title game. I just think all this points out the suckage of the Big Ten schedule. Wisconsin doesnt play OSU. Which really raises two problems. I think that it hurts Wisconsin as they may go 11-1 and have no shot at a BCS game unless Michigan just roles over OSU. Also it really isnt fair scheduling when OSU has Wiscosin and Purdue off their schedule while Michigan has Illinois and Purdue off their schedule. They play 12 games now I wish the Big Ten would go to a 10 game conference schedule.

Yeah, I view the Nutt situation much like the Ole Miss situation with David Cutcliffe while he was still the head coach there. He had them playing hard and well, with multiple good years. The problem was, he never got them to the elite level, which is hard to criticize your coach for in a conference as tough as the SEC. The same goes for Nutt, I think he's done quite a good job and could have Arkansas fighting for the West for a long time.

On to a personal note, it's finally time for vengeance upon Spurrier. I'm ready to get this UT v Spurrier matchup over with. I think it'll be a tough game, with Spurrier getting his boys fired up to beat us. Ultimately, I think we pull it out by no more than a couple TDs. Then we get ready for LSU and Arkansas. Tough stretch.
