I have a question, if Lou is hired are you guys going to give him a chance? Or is he going to be hated from day one and assumed to be a complete failure before we even play a game? Just wondering, and for the record he is probably last of the big names on my wish list.

I did it with Dusty so I don't see a reason to change my strategy.

Great discussion, but a bit premature considering word out of SF is Piniella is heading west.

Not saying it will happen-----just saying it looks like 2 teams consider Piniella to be in the bag, so something has to give.

This seems premature to me also considering Bochy just became available, and if the reports of mutual love between Jim and Lou were true, why wait?

That said, Chambliss was the Yankees hitting coach during their run in the 90's, no? They took as many pitches and worked as many counts as any team in recent memory.

i have one big name on my wish list, but managing is not about having a big name.

i've come to accept the idea of piniella as manager if for no other reason than because lou will probably be given the players to compete.

if dusty didn't get along with mcgowan or sabean, i'd hate to see how piniella would do with them.

So......does Rothschild stay, or does Lou go with someone else? That's really the only coaching staff job I care much about.

...and really, the only reason I wanted Girardi in as manager, so he'd bring Kranitz with him. Ah well, it'll be entertaining at least to see a "firey" mgr at Wrigley! :?

What was their oft-repeated approach
,

Taking pitches and drawing walks

and what does Narron prefer?

swinging away and hitting the ball like a man :x

yet another example of people who have jobs in baseball, people who are very close to baseball and whose livelihoods depend upon baseball having absolutely no objective clue about how to build a team--or what to fix when your team is broken.

i really don't want to hear another person tell me that baseball insiders know more about baseball than anyone else who watches the games.

Well, Kranitz re-signed with the Marlins yesterday.

With Piniella, you can almost take it to the bank that Rothschild will be back.

Why is that? What relationship do they have, other than LTC being Piniella's bullpen coach long ago?

That's prolly because he knew Girardi wasn't going to get the Cubs job.

Yeah, I don't think it's a guarantee that Rothschild will be retained under Lou.

Of course, maybe that is wishful thinking on my part.

I'm beginning to think Joe isn't going to get a managing job this year.

If Lou comes to the Cubs, I don't see how Girardi doesn't get the Washington job.

Would be damn interesting if something happens with the Washington job. What if Joe was told he'd be the heir to Lou, and would be expected to prepare for that with Lou?

Yikes...

I don't think he's a lock for it by any means.

according to Bruce Miles' latest article sweaty lou has "taken himself out of the running for the SF job"

I wonder if Girardi might be a candidate to be bench coach under Uncle Lou if he doesn't get another managerial job.

That's already likely reserved for McLaren, who should already be a manager.

That's actually the scenario I had in mind. Lou to get a quick championship, with Girardi eventually taking over to provide long-term stability.

I agree with UK that McLaren is more likely, but I still think the Girardi scenario is interesting.

Why would Girardi sign on to be an understudy when he's already been a manager and would in all likelihood get a head job somewhere else? I can't imagine he would view the Cubs job that much higher that he would do something like that.

If you look at my earlier post, you'll notice I said IF he doesn't get another managerial job.

Wouldn't he rather return to NY to bench coach for Torre again and put himself back in the running for that job?
