A "small plane" reportedly hit a building in midtown. Now they say helicopter.

Now reports of small white plane doing acrobatics. FAA says fixed-wing.

They're saying it was a "general aviation" aircraft.

I don't like reading that as the subject. It crashed into a residential building, which is good because there's a good likelihood the people that lived there were at work, and that it truly was an accidental crash.

Uh oh..wow its on CNN. Time for media overreaction

You're going to get on the media for "overreacting" to a plane crash in Manhattan?

Good point, all indications make it obvious that its an accident. By overreaction I meant 9-11 level overreaction. But after reading your post, I guess no reaction is really overreaction when people are potentially dead or injured (not to mention its a freaking plane crash in freakin Manhattan)

this is about 12 blocks from where i work. i can see the smoke from our 4th floor window. supposedly the plane hit either the 10th, 20th or 30th floor of the building. either way, hope there were as few casualties as possible.

They've scrambled some fighters but so far nothing is suspisious. NYPD says one confirmed fatality. I am assuming this was the pilot. NORAD says there is nothing to suspect that this was a terrorist attack at this point.

It's obvious now, but it wasn't at first. The market took a pretty steep initial drop. That alone is worth a little discussion, because it shows how jittery the market is. Plus, air safety is going to be discussed. General aviation aircraft was banned from the area for a pretty substantial time.

We're not as close as some, but being right by Penn Station we could hear a lot of sirens (before we heard on the news) and the local radio station websites crashed...sort of a flashback for some.

remember the accidental small plane crash into the white house? Actually, I think it was supposedly a lone crazy dude in a cessna or something. Not sure. Anyway, I thought at the time it was a test run by terrorists to test defenses.

Not a joke. Just heard on wnbc that the owner of the plane that crashed into the building in New York this afternoon was Corey Lidle. Edited by Bull

yikes, what a weird turn in the story.

I can't tell in the few minutes of watching the news yet, but are they saying he was piloting the plane, or that the plane was simply registered to him?

edit: condolences to any harmed/killed regardless of whether it's a pro athlete or not, of course :(

OMG!! Move to baseball transactions?

If true, prayers go out to Cory's family

Definitely. I am listening to ESPN radio who is confirming it. I can't find it anywhere else though.

they say its not confirmed he was flying it, just on it. He is a novice pilot though and the plane was registered to him
