Ha! Drexel's head coach's name is Bruiser Flint.
I'm familiar with that name. He was previously head coach at Umass, replacing John Calipari when he left.

I don't have the stats or the numbers in front of me but If I recall they had a worse RPI and SOS then the other #1 seeds and UCLA and the Big 12 certainly aint the best conference around so there is no reason they should get a #1 overall or #2 overall.

Mizzou missed the NIT. :(

I'm biased, but it's frustrating to see Mizzou miss it while all of NC State, Providence, Georgia, DePaul, Fresno St, San Diego St, and West Virginia got in. Can't take everyone I guess.

It's more frustrating because all we had to do is beat Baylor and we were a lock. At least Ben Askren will bring us another National Championship?

UNC has 2 more losses and is 7-3 in it's last 10.

UF has one more loss, is also 7-3 in their last ten, including one loss to a non-tourney team. They also lost to KU head-to-head. The SEC is only marginally better than the big XII.

KU is on a 11 game winning streak. Only one loss to a non-tourney team all season.

And anyone who watches any games knows they're playing better than both UNC and UF. If you want to give UNC a higher 1 seed due to playing in the ACC, then whatever. The UF is inexcusable.

I just got home from work. KU got jobbed. How are we the 4th 1 seed? How is Fla the overall 1? The West bracket? we got hosed.

No way your right where you should be you better thank Cal for beating UCLA or you would have been a #2 seed for sure.

KU was a 1-seed no matter what happened to UCLA.

i dont understand the big deal of the ranking of the #1 seeds. the #4 in KUs bracket is SIU, it could've been texas. its not that often the 1 and 2 seeds meet in the elite 8 anyway.

I am not so sure about that. I think most people have UCLA being a #1 seed till they choked in the Pac 10 tourny. They were 9-1 against the top 50 I believe. They had I think the 2nd hardest schedule out there if they didnt embarass themselves in the tourny I think they could have easiely got that last #1 seed.

KU was as likely a 1-seed as Ohio State and UCLA before the conference tourneys started. North Carolina was the one who should thank Cal.

well north carolina got the #2 overall and KU got the #4 overall so apparently from there opinion NC was more worthy off a #1 than KU so I would think If UCLA one a game or 2 in the Pac 10 that the #4 overall would slip out and be replaced by them. But anyways Ku got it and UCLA did not so no point in debating it I guess.

also, today was an example of why Brandon Rush will be a solid NBA player. He may never be the prolific scorer people expected, but he plays tremendous defense, and he has the ability to go for 25 points on a given night.

I'm so happy with how he's turned out. There were a lot of whispers about him being a bad kid, but he's really been great, both on and off the court.

There was a huge story about him (and JaRon and Kareem) in the LA Times a week or so ago, dunno if you read it.

It was also sad to read about all the problems JaRon had after he left UCLA.

Yes, but can he read?

What's the indication with early entrance for Rush and Wright? Is Wright for sure gone? Is Rush staying another year?

Wright has said since he got here he was staying for three years (he's on track to graduate in 3.) He has consistenly reaffirmed that. But with a deep tourney run...? Who knows.

I think with a good tourney showing Rush is definitely gone. Other than that, it probably depends on his draft projection. If he's a guaranteed 1st rounder, I think he'll probably go.

And yes, he can read.

Correct, and he is a good coach.

I get what you are saying, but I think UNC has a far more difficult road than KU.

He reminds me a lot of Deng in terms of his build and athletic ability. I really had not seen him play very much until yesterday and came away very impressed.

On discussion of the #1 seeds, remember that at the time that the bracket was completed it was not known if Kansas would lose their game or not. They had decided to not move Kansas off of a #1 regardless, but that may have factored into their decision to put them in the West. Besides-only NC is in the region they wanted anyway, everyone else got sent off to a different region.

Seriously, the East is ridiculous. I think they have 4 of the top 10 teams in the country right now.

I get Carolina, Georgetown, and Texas, but who is the 4th? No way is Washinton State one of the top 10 teams.

I had them #7 when we were ranking the tourney teams.

I agree here - Vitale was saying Vandy will bounce them, but I watched them against UCLA this year and I don't see them bowing early - they are ticketed for the Sweet 16, IMO. I know they got 6 bids, but this is a very top-heavy year in the Pac-10, IMO. USC is here and there as they showed against Oregon, and AZ is incredibly undisciplined. I still cannot believe that Stanford (or the Illini) got in over Drexel. UCLA, Wash St, and Oregon are the class, IMO.

Along those lines, I really believe that Lute Olson is an overrated coach. He's old, he's won a national title, and he recruits well (and supposedly clean, but I have my doubts based on stories I heard about their national title team), but if he doesn't have off-the-charts talent he doesn't do anything of note (look at the names on that national title team as examples). I think this is b/c his teams are undisciplined goons and he isn't much of an X's and O's guy. Contrast this with Howland at Pitt and UCLA, Self at KU (though I am thinking of his Tulsa days), and even Knight at TT (and some of his later years at IU).

I think (and I know this is biased b/c I am a UNC fan) Roy Williams belongs in that group as well, given how he reigned in the three nut-jobs (McCants, May and Felton) and won a title, then quickly re-loaded when all of them plus Marvin Williams all left.

I am really not all that impressed with Georgetown. Granted I haven't watched them a lot this year, but the couple games I saw I thought they were good, but not top ten type good. Granted I saw them against the Cuse and Duke.

You are very wrong. G'town is one of the more underrated defensive teams in the NCAA. They brought everyone back from the team that took Florida to the wire last year (I believe they lost by 1 or lost in OT). Jeff Green is one of the top 5 players in the country. Hibbard is a game-changer when he can stay on the court.

Which is why I said that I could be wrong being as I have only see them play twice. But, hey don't bother reading all of what I said.

are you talking about wright or rush?

The big difference between wright anf deng is that wright isn't much of a natural scorer. (ie no shot.)

I've been gone, so here's my take on the brackets.

- Way too much love for the ACC (VT a 5, Virginia a 4) and a complete screw job on the Big East (every single team got underseeded except Pitt and Gtown, and Cuse should've been in over Arkansas). ND should've been a 5, Marquette I thought was a solid 7, Nova in my mind was an 8 or a 7, and Louisville was definitely not as low as a 6.

- However, I'm not complaining at ND's draw. I love that we got matched up with the "sexy pick" for an upset - i.e. the ones that never pan out. Winthrop is 1-4 against tourney teams this year - the only W was over ODU. A possible 2nd-round matchup with Oregon, who is really good but no one I don't think ND can beat, and a Sweet 16 with in my mind a very beatable Wisco team lines up for me to take ND to the Elite 8, which is what I'm doing.

- My 1 seed I have going out previous to the Elite 8 is KU (because I had to), my 12 over 5 is Long Beach over UT (not impressed with Tenn this year), and my Final Four is Florida, UCLA, Georgetown and Ohio State, with UCLA edging Georgetown for the title.

- UNC got the screw in their draw - they get a possible road to the F4 of Marquette, Texas, then Georgetown. That's rough.

- South is criminally easy. In any other bracket I wouldn't have had OSU advancing to Atlanta.

- Go Irish.

Dunno about the UNC part but I completely agree in regards to Lute and Arizona. The reason Arizona (and partly Washington) are being passed by the UCLA, USC, WSU, Oregon (sometimes), Stanford and Cal (last season; this season would have been similar if DeVon Hardin didn't get hurt) is because these teams are much more disciplined and actually play defense.
