If U of I was left out they'd have the highest RPI of a BCS team that was left out as far back as I have info('99) (Not counting teams ineligible for postseason play) They'd also have the most wins of a team in a BCS conference to miss the NCAAs. I'm not using these as reasons why I think they should be in, but I could see the committee looking at these things. Same reason KSU will probably get in.

For those who care what us nerds from the other thread think, we have it down to these 23 teams for the last 14 spots.

Nevada

Virginia

Boston College

Vanderbilt

Illinois

Georgia Tech

Syracuse

BYU

Xavier

Missouri State

USC

Texas Tech

Stanford

Purdue

Air Force

Old Dominion

West Virginia

Drexel

Bradley

Kansas State

Arkansas

Oklahoma State

Florida State

I have no clue how you go through those 23 teams and put U of I at 15 or lower.

I think Vanderbilt, Nevada, Virginia, BC, USC, and Illinois are no-brainers. I'm surprised they are on the "NSBB Bubble" at all.

Teams like Purdue, Illinois, and K-State should be safe if there aren't upsets tomorrow. If Arkansas wins the SEC and NC State wins the ACC-things are going to get a bit dicey.

OJ Mayo was arrested last night:

O-J Mayo was among four males cited on misdemeanor marijuana possession charges in Huntington, West Virginia, late last night. Cabell County Sheriff’s Deputy Doug Adams says the driver had a small amount of marijuana on him and there was marijuana in a spare set of shoes in the back of the car.

Another banner week for USC athletics between that and and the whole White Aryan Nation football thing.

an inside joke, and a minor marijuana offense. What horrible human beings

I didn't say that OJ is a horrible human but he continues to make some ridiculous mistakes.

I'm sure you also think the USC White Aryan Nation thing is no big deal.

Lunardi said we are out and Purdue and Indiana are in. What a freaking joke. We took 2 of 3 from IU, if they get in and we don't I won't watch a second of that tourny.

yeah you'll really show them!

Yeah why don't you cheer for your holy cross this will be the year they are relevent. Oh wait, no it won't

hey at least I won't be swearing off one of the most fun tournaments to watch because a pretty good team that I root for won't be getting a chance to win one or maybe two games in it

At least we have a shot to win a game, why does your team get to go again?

I hope you look back on this conversation later and realize how immature you're being.

A) Holy Cross has as good a chance as any mid-major to pick up a win in the first round, especially if they end up with a 13. They have an RPI of 62 and beat Bucknell twice. They have two very good seniors leading them. The Patriot League has shown in recent years that they can win NCAA games. If they play a team like Oregon---Lunardi's projection---they have a great chance.

B) Illinois will make the tournament, without a doubt. All this whining and complaining is for naught. IU and U of I will both be in and will both probably lose first round games.

Holy Cross is not beating anyone in this tournament. Alos I think you are selling short both IU and UI we play defense, a lot of big conference teams don't.

I can't believe people are making this argument.

Not exactly a bold prediction.

BTW, I'm an IU fan and I love our defense...I just don't like the way we're playing and could see us getting a rough 7/10 or 8/9 matchup. If we play a middle of the pack Big East team, we're in trouble.

BC and Nevada are almost entirely my doing since I've argued that BC has been mediocre without Williams, and Nevada has beaten nobody. Vandy and VA under closer scrutiny had us re-consider their lock status. U of I and USC haven't really seen serious objections.

I could see Holy Cross winning a game if they get a 13 or a good 14 seed cause there's really not a lot of great teams after UCLA, OSU, Wiscons, UNC, Florida, Kansas, A&M, and Georgetown.(Enough for the top 2 seeds.)

Holy Cross is not beating anyone in this tournament.

We came within 4 points of beating Tayshaun Prince and Kentucky in 2001, led Collison, Hinrich and Kansas with 10 minutes to go in 2002, and were even with Dwayne Wade and Marquette in 2003 with 2 minutes left. Bucknell, another Patriot League team, won first round games in 2005 and 2006. So are you sure that Holy Cross has no chance?

Besides, I don't gauge the success of our season on how far we go. Hell, even putting a scare into a top 10 team like Kansas or Kentucky was a great accomplishment. And this year, we won every game in conference except for one, and beat a very good Bucknell team that had beaten us the previous two years in the Patriot League final. So unless Illinois goes to the NIT, I'm certain that Holy Cross will have more titles in 2006-07 than Illinois will.

Alos I think you are selling short both IU and UI we play defense, a lot of big conference teams don't.

Holy Cross is 6th out of 336 in raw defensive efficiency, 4th in turnover rate against, and 1st in steal %. So you know the biggest reason that we have a chance in the first round? Because we play defense, and a lot of big conference teams don't.

Oregon is taking it to USC. :)

Oregon and Washington State are gonna go Sweet 16 - Elite 8, imo.

Oregon has a better chance at the Elite 8 than Washington State, imo. WSU just doesn't boast the big wins that Oregon does. Wins over Georgetown and UCLA are huge, especially since I think they are both Elite 8 teams.

Hey we almost won a national championship, but didn't. Get back to me when you finish the deal and win a tournament game and use your defense against a real team and not a bunch of nobodies in you pittiful little conference.

Correction on a previous post---Holy Cross would have a great shot against a 4 seed, but not Oregon. I think Oregon deserves better, however, than a 4.

WSU's style of play will be beneficial to them. Strong defense, slow things down. A lot of teams won't be handle that.

My God, Oregon is up 67-32 on USC.

Can we cut this crap out? There's no place for it in a conversation among adults.

It is a real point. There stats are going to be skewed because they play teams with less offensive talents. Almost winning feels great, but you still lost.

No one is disputing your point. The way you're saying things, though (i.e. "

pittiful little conference") takes away credibility. No one can respect your points if you're not respectful.

If you come with well they are gonna win more titles than us, what kind of response would you expect? What does that conference have 1 win ever in the tournament? Why then should you get an automatic bid for winning a conference filled with non-tournament level teams?

Maybe if Holy Cross gave out cars and money to their players, they could compete as well. But they don't.

Right, have you seen our recruiting results? I don't think we are cheating, or if we are we aren't doing it well.

Wow, USC. 76-39!?

They will still be safely in, but I do believe that all of the seed improvement that USC has been doing with their two previous wins in the tournament has been washed away with this performance-this is the sort of thing that could cost them a couple seed lines tomorrow night.
