As usual....The Big Least is overrated again this season.

Badgers roll in a huge blowout at home. In the words of Vitale, Pitt got taken to the shed.

Cant wait for Mr Butch to meet Mr Buckeye in the Madtowne the 1st week of January.

That Alando Tucker kid is really really really good. He keeps it up and you will be talking about the PoY for him.

GO WISKY!

Pitt always plays a terrible schedule and is overrated. Maybe sometime this century the Big 10 will win a National Championship? Do you think?

I think someone will this January. They should also be playing another Big Ten team for the title. I beleive we had a basketball team that would have won if not for standing within two feet of Sean May being a foul.

Just because Illinois couldn't stop Sean May to save its life in that game doesn't mean you have to throw out untrue statements like that. Don't get me wrong, I was rooting for Illinois that year but there was no favorite playing by the refs in that game.

I would agree with that-I was also rooting bigtime for Illinois, but I thought that game was called very fairly.

I though NC definitely had the benefit of the calls, but nowhere near to the extent they did two games before. oh if only one Alando Tucker was healthy that year.

The free throw disparity would also agree with my argument. UNC also got the benefit of the doubt on a huge call in the last minute against Villanova. They got a lot of "breaks" that year in the tourny.

Come on. You're an Illinois fan. You should know what type of team you had back then. Illinois was a 3 point shooting team. They didn't drive into the basket. They shot jumpers. You don't get fouled too often shooting jumpers. 40 of their 70 shots in the title game were from beyond the arc. Illinois shot 6 free throws in the National Title game. They also only shot 8 against Louisville in the National semifinals. Does that mean the refs favored Louisville? Didn't think so.

Sean May was an established post presence and the fact is that Illinois couldn't stop him. When you're completely overmatched like that, you're are going to commit fouls. It happens.

James Augustine played 4 minutes 4 minutes. Felton got in foul trouble early and then played the entire final what, 27 minutes without picking up another foul. I know we shot a lot of threes, but we also got called for fouls for standing next to Sean May.

i get angry every time i think of that game. one of his fouls, either the 4th or 5th, seemed like it was almost intentional. for a second i thought he was throwing the game, but the replay didnt look as bad, he was just understandably frustrated with horrible officiating.

James Augustine, alltime leading rebounder at UI. 1000 career points and rebounds. Three time All Big Ten performer. NBA draftee. Not very good. Nice post.

Did you even ever watch James Augustine? Do you even know who he is? Not a very good post.

Yes I did. I watched him play many times that year as I wanted to see if Illinois could go undefeated. He was the weak spot on that team. Before you jump all over me for that, I realize that saying Augustine was the weak spot on that team isn't really saying too much because of Head, Brown, and Williams. But he never did anything that stood out to me. He just always seemed to just be on the court while the three guys I mentioned before did most of the work.

Now, I'll admit that I didn't see him much last year after Head and Williams left so he could have improved a bunch and could have been more of a focal point in their offense last year. But two years ago, he didn't really do anything that stood out to me and I wasn't very impressed with his play.

After putting a beatdown on Pitt, the Wisconsin Badgers are ranked #4 in the AP and #5 in the Coaches Poll. As Da Ali G would say "Respect". Look forward to the Ohio St game in Madison on Jan. 6th.

This post captures every single reason why i hate the Big Least and their fans.

MSU won it in 2000, which is this century.

From 2000-2006, the Big 10 put 6 entries into the Final Four. The only conference that had more was the ACC at 7. The Big Least had a total of 2 (Marq/Louis dont count b/c they were in the CUSA at the time).

And just because somehow someway those teams did win championships, they think they are the best conference in all of collegiate basketball- not minding the fact they didnt win a single championship from 1985 to 1999.

The Big Least has no balance and no depth. They are more of a mercurial phenomenon than a power conference and i wish their fans would start to understand this.

Augustine hasn't played a minute in the NBA while May is averaging 12 and 6. He's clearly the better player, and it's no surprise that in a one-on-one situation May would give Augustine trouble. Whether Augustine is any good or not I won't go comment on, because I don't really feel like arguing with illiniguy and the rest of the U of I fans, especially on the eve of Mizzou-Illinois.

I think this game is going to be a battle. I'm really excited.

There isn't an argument. If a guy plays major college D1 for four years he is good. I am pretty excited for this game again this year. I am so glad you guys got rid of Quinn.

So when you were doing all of this watching of our team, did you notice how he was the guy who kept us in the OSU game? Or how he won MVP of the Big Ten Tournament? Or when he abused Fazekus and was the best player in our regional? Nope, ok just checking. Really top level analysis though. You know who I think sucks? The Collison kid at UCLA, I mean after all he isn't as good as the other UCLA players or Farmar. See how ignorant that sounds. Also I would argue Powell was our biggest weak link from that team. He was playing out of position for the majority of the year and made it all the way until the big ten season without an assist.

Just by calling it the "Big Least" proves you have an inferiority complex. Maybe someday you can play with the big boys again, someday.

if luther head hits the three that was perfectly lined up, just a little long, with the score tied, the whole issue is moot because the illini win the national championship.

what's amazing is how well they fared with one armed tied behind their back, nearly beating a team that sent 4 players to the first round the next season.

It is so hard to compare conferences now that you guys have become the AFC. Seriously 18 teams? The Big Ten has been is a ton of final fours, so it isn't like we aren't in the running.

16 teams in the Big East, not 18.

ND moves up to 20th in the AP poll, still not ranked (although first in the also category) in the coaches.

Ok the eastern conference in the NBA. That better? :D

by the way, Penn State lost to Southeast Louisiana on Saturday. They've now lost to Southeast Louisiana and Stony Brook, along with Shippensburg in an exhibition game, and beat Hartford by one point. They're going to get destroyed in the Big Ten.

This is ridiculous. Nobody said Augustine was better than May. The fact that May puts up 12/6 in the NBA and Augustine rides the practice squad tells me absolutely nothing about a 1 on 1 matchup between Augustine vs. May 1 on 1.

who cares about the big east? i live in the midwest. didn't ben gordon come out of the big east one year?

I was simply commenting on the mocking of the name. It really doesn't matter to me if you care or not.

Kind of like how the Big 10 has 3 more teams in football?

What's the anomoly, having 8 teams in a football conference, 16 in a basketball conference, or BOTH?

It's not the Big East's fault that a lot of those schools don't have big-time football programs. And saying the Big East has no depth is ridiculous - only a small number of those schools can be considered pretty irrelevent as far as basketball goes (USF, Rutgers, Providence). UConn and Syracuse are powers every year and Pitt, West Virginia, Marquette, Georgetown, Villanova, Cincy and Louisville are good to very good most years. The Big East has been ranked #3, #2 and #2 the past three years in conference RPI, while the Big Ten was #6, #6 and #1 during that stretch. Last year was the first year since '01 that the Big Ten had a better conference RPI than the Big East. So to call them "more of a mercurial phenomenon than a power conference" is completely absurd.
