Who the heck would be pitching Game 7 for the Mets? Darren Oliver? Man how has this team gone as far as they have with no pitching. Oh yeah, they are in the NL

Don't forget, they have Pedro and El Duque too but they're injured.

I bet they wish they had gotten Zito at the deadline right about now

Darren Oliver or Oliver Perez.

Man, last year, Darren Oliver was so bad he couldn't crack the Cubs' injury ravaged pitching staff and was cut from Iowa. Now he or Oliver Perez could be starting game 7. AND Jeff Weaver has looked good this series. :-s

Is it just the way they have the sound mixed on TV, but is anyone anoyed by how loud the music and sound effects are at Shea? Yankee Stadium and Dodger Stadium are the same way. Does everyone loose 10db of listening ability when living in LA and NY?

That goodness Wrigley, The Cell and other stadiums in this area aren't like that.

Mediocre pitchers are going to win the NLCS, but people will still talk about great pitching shutting down great hitting.

Shea has some of the largest speakers ever created. They are extremely annoying, but not as annoying as the dude with the cowbell.

Did someone ask for the dude with the cowbell?

It's not that bad at Dodger Stadium.

Exactly. Too many holes on the Cubs to worry about one part of the team.

Maybe they fixed it. The one time I was out there two years ago it was obnoxious.

Also: is it just me or is Shea stadium one big sausagefest? It seemed like every time there was a close up shot of the stands, 80 to 90% of the crowd was white males between 20 and 35.

And does anyone of color go to Mets games? As much as I dislike the Cards, at least their crowds looked a lot more diverse.

The Mets might have the most diverse crowd of any baseball team. The Yankees are the team of the typical white male 20-50 years old. Mets get all kinds. They have several "minority heritage" days throughout the year. A lot of last nights crowd was probably of the resale market, which would include a lot of bankers/lawyers etc, which might skew white. But overall, they get a very diverse crowd.

They probably don't get as many women as Yankees fans, but that might be because Mets fans are actually Mets fans, while Yankees fans are largely "be seen at the cool place" fans, which includes more women. But there are a good amount of female Mets fans. Some of the most passionate I've ever seen were women.

I know what you're saying and have read the same stuff.

But watching this series (and especially last night's game) on a 50" HDTV it just seems like most of the people actually at the game were young to middle aged white males. I think your thoughts about resale and ticket price is right.

One thing I have noticed: games is domes draw more families and women. Just go to NFL games in Indianapolis, Detroit, Minnesota and St. Louis and you'll see what I mean. Things are different at Bears games; especially when it gets colder. Even within my group of friends who tailgate and go to Bears games, the women fade as the season goes on. (Thank goodness the Bears didn't build a dome attached to McCormick Place as was planned for a while. Football should be played on God's green grass and under His blue sky.)

I woke up happy today. Why? Because its Cardinal Elimination Day!

I am trying to stay positive here. At the end of the night, it could be the first day since the Red Sox won the world series that all of my hated teams are not in the playoffs

At the risk of skating on some dangerous racial territory, I'd say that might be due to the relatively large number of shots of fans in the high roller seats, compared to the rest. 95% of fan shots have to be the ones right behind home plate or the dugouts. Those are invariably "corporate" types, and as sad as it sounds, white people. Of course, that's not always true. Our office has its hands on a lot of tickets, and some very good seats, and at least one of the guys that went, was black, and another asian. But that's just a pointless example I guess.

Piniella would be happy to know that the key to this is Perez throwing strikes.

The Mets have to try and nickle and dime Suppan, hitting the sinker for line drives and driving a hanging curve.

The Cards will have to make Perez throwing strikes and get ahead in the count.

I think the Cards will win this one with Encarnacion having a big night.

Wright should've called for that one, Pujols needs to learn to run that out (or a jog), he'd be on 3B.

I doubt that with the ball being on that side of the infield.

If I was a Cards fan, I'd be upset at the relationship between Rolen and LaRussa.

What's Rolen's contract status?

Weren't there rumors of A.Rod coming to the Cubs and Rolen replacing him in New York?

Didn't the same stuff happen with him in Philly?

Posted
He was already past 1st on a slow trot when the ball dropped, Reyes would not have been in a position to cover 3rd and Delgado has to make an accurate throw from behind the backstop to 3B, regardless of him being a C, it favored Pujols.
