Mike North this morning was trying to sell the audience on Deng and Nocioni for Garnett...

Mike North is an idiot.

He has no understanding how the NBA works.

Exactly. Salaries have to match up.

Looking for everyone else's thoughts on this...

I'm hanging on to Deng and Gordon if I'm Paxson. Still lots of assets West might want. I'd hold out and call his bluff. If it doesn't happen before the deadline, could happen during the off-season -- after you find out where the Knicks' pick falls.

That makes no sense. After this season, we don't have PJ's expiring contract to make the deals work easier. Then we're looking at giving up a valuable player asset instead of a contractual asset. We should have a good idea of where the Knick pick is in the next few weeks. Why hold out til season's end when we can't use PJ for a team to get some cap relief?

Wouldn't the Bulls still have the cap space to facilitate a deal once PJ is off the books this offseason? If that wouldn't work, they could try to work our a sign and trade with Deng. I'm sure West would like to hang on to Deng long term if he's trading Gasol for him.

That said, I think Paxson has other plans for PJ's expiring contract than making a trade. He's looking to hold on to Nocioni, Deng and Gordon long term.

I'm suggesting they hold out until after the lottery because Oden and Durant will be superstars.

I keep hearing these things too. Apparently Pax would really like to strike a big deal for a monster inside scorer, but he doesn't want to give anything up to do it.

I think we can safely drop the pretenses. Barring a draft lottery miracle, or a Knicks collapse to the lower tier (could happen I suppose), Pax is going to have to give something up to get that inside points-machine----or just live with what he has.

It's his choice, but he's not getting something for nothing.

He doesn't want to gut the team to do it. Give up too much to get KG and you turn the Bulls into the Timberwolves, for instance.

I think the Bulls have an excellent shot at landing an impact big in this draft. The Knicks' pick is top 10 right now, I think they'll fall back a bit in the standings by season's end, and Greg Oden, Kevin Durant, Brandan Wright, Joakim Noah, Spencer Hawes, Julian Wright and Al Horford are all top 10 talents.

It's his choice

Of course, and I'm a huge fan of his choices to date.

Gasol not playing today. injury or trade? hmm

Hamstring injury

Memphis Online[/url]"]There was a bit of speculation among the media about whether Gasol sat because he'd been traded. But no deal had been struck, and team president Jerry West reiterated Friday that a trade is highly unlikely by the NBA's Feb. 22 deadline despite Gasol's recent request.

The Bulls still have the resources to get whatever they need, without trading Deng, Gordon or Hinrich.

Nocioni, PJ, Thomas, Thabo, and a lottery draft pick is a good package, and more than any other team can conceivably offer.

If a package of 3 or 4 of those players doesn't net Gasol, O'Neal, or Garnett....the Bulls get to keep all except PJ, and like 1908 mentioned, add an extremely talented big man next year. I don't know how everything would work cap wise, though, keeping Deng, Gordon and Hinrich.

Good to see Jason Kapono starts now for the Heat...he's probably my favorite Bruin from my student days (apologies to Afflalo, Bozeman and Hollins). Edited by CaliforniaRaisin

The way these refs protect Dwyane Wade (and LeBron, but that's not germane to this game) is utterly sickening to me. Wade gets a total BS foul call against Big Ben with 1.8 seconds to go, then hacks Kirk on the last shot with no call. Unbelievable.
