He should've fired Hendry, and then resigned.

Seriously! Or told FitzSimons, "Yo, bossman, I'm jettin on this disaster," so that we could have found a legit replacement, instead of the tool from marketing.

I imagine he did tell him that...and this was what Fitzimmons came up with.

Oh the Competence!!

Mark Cuban, save us!

Mark Cuban knows [deleted] about baseball, he's a joke and if he decides to get involved in baseball, dont let it be the Cubs, because he'll take them straight to baseball hell, plus he wont be able to run out on the field with that bad body he's got!

And you might want to watch the language.

Cuban would be a great owner. He would make sure he put the right people in place and take care of his players. He took the Mavs from loser to the NBA Finals. I think he would be a breath of fresh air.

BTW, when did Cuban run over your dog?

I think Cuban would be the type of person who, if he didn't fully understand something, he would bring people in who he thought did understand what was going on and would give him advice on things. But if they didn't give him advice that worked, those people would be gone and he would bring in other people and would try something else.

Good riddance, you sweater-vest-wearing piece of human garbage.
Way out of line. You could have stopped with good riddance. Referring to him as "human garbage" isn't welcome here.

wow....

I agree. Great Post by JeffH.

No, it wasn't, and neither was yours. There's absolutely no reason to be immature and use demeaning names after he has resigned. Be happy that he's gone and leave it at that. If you want to have those thought in your mind, that's fine, but it's out of line to post them here. You got what you (and many others, including myself) wanted; just be glad about that.

Is there reason enough to use them before someone has resigned? Why hasn't this same standard been applied to Baker and Hendry? Because they are still with the team?

Don't get me wrong. I agree 100% with what you wrote, NCCF. I am a big fan of decorum. I'm just wondering where this tough talk has been. I like it. Keep it coming.

Q: On the Tribune selling the team?

DF: "We retained financial advisors last week to look at strategic alternatives. We will not be discussing the sale of any individual assets."

Q: "So you are going to keep the team for the time being?"

DF: "Yes, yes, yes."

Anyone that thinks that the problem with the Cubs is Tribune ownership just doesn't get it.

get what? explain yourself?

I dont' care if they authorized a 90+ million dollar payroll.

They have no interest in brining in compentant leadership that will spend it wisely. They have also been terrible managing the leadership/vision of the farm system.

I disagree. I think they THOUGHT MacPhail would be a big winner here. he has a long baseball pedigree and some success in Minnesota.

They can be criticized for not putting him on the hot seat earlier, but I almost think, by the sound of his resignation, that he felt a lot of heat from above for a while now.

IMO, the Tribune gave him what was required to win, he and his hires (and their hires) just failed miserably at it.

The best news for us, as fans, is that the Hendry was "his guy" and hopefully will be on a MAJOR hot seat this season. Philosophy and farm system is not the fault of the Trib, aside from not firing MacPhail. That's all baseball operations- which means it's a management issue (Andy), not ownership (trib). All the trib really does is budget and hire the president. From there on down, that's the President's responsibility.

I'm expecting the hiring of Lou Piniella any day now...

The Tribune doesn't care about baseball, and therein lies the problem. You can't run a ballclub effectively in committee.

Providing the cash isn't the whole story. Anyone who doesn't realize this------well, they're the ones who don't "get it."

I would like to apologize to the board for my altogether inappropriate post earlier in this thread.

I think some people owe you an apology the way they came down on you

with their "Holier than though" attittude.

Tribune wants to win! Why wouldn't they? If you win it's a money windfall. They just don't have a clue how to win.

Yep. Winning brings a boatload of revenue. Corporate committees like revenue.

66-96 managed to bring in a boatload of revenue this year.

Who needs winning?

Way out of line. You could have stopped with good riddance. Referring to him as "human garbage" isn't welcome here.

I agree that it's not appropriate, but why is it okay for people to call players "garbage" and "trash" on here all the time, but not the team president?

Personally I don't like to read that either. I think it shows a lack of imagination and lowers the IQ of the board.

That being said, let's try to stay on the Baker thing for the rest of the thread and if you want to write more about this please just start a thread in rants about it. Thank you.

I don't have a problem reading somebody is a garbage player. But I don't think there is much justification for calling any of them human garbage. There is a difference. That's a bold claim. You can backup calling a player garbage by showing his stats. You can't backup calling him human garbage without sufficient evidence, like documented wife beating, drug dealing, child molesting and so on.

It's his opinion and he's speaking his mind. Are we really going to police the different definitions of garbage? It's kinda silly isn't it?

When people make it personal with terms such as human garbage, rather than just commenting on their performance, I plan to. That's what I was commenting on here, because he was calling MacPhail a bad person rather than a bad president.
