Kirk Herbstreit said on his radio show yesterday that the environment in Austin for the Texas/OSU game was "a wine and cheese party compared to the atmosphere they will face in Kinnick Saturday."

He then maintained his stance that Kinnick is the toughest place to play in the Big Ten outside of the years when we were struggling.

Even outside the fact that he always gives Iowa a lot of respect, I've said for a few years that he's as good as it gets as a sports analyst on tv. Always very knowledgable, always speaks well, doesn't need to shout or use gimmicks, and isn't a homer.

I like Kirk too, he knows his stuff.

Seems like the only people that don't like Kirk are OSU fans who don't like that he isn't a homer.

Indeed. Herbie is a first class talent. He use to get harrassed all the time by the local knuckleheads in Columbus when I lived there. I think if he wasn't an OSU alum the radio station would have fired him a long time ago. They fired his co-host in 1999 for giving "it" to one of the callers/listeners and then going off on a 5 minute tirade on what idiots/uninformed most of the listening audience was.

Then shortly afterwords they hired Neanderthal Chris Speilman to do the show right before Herbie's. And its all Buckeyes all the time.

Really?

I knew OSU fans got upset sometimes because he isn't a blind homer, but I still would have thought he was somewhat of a hero out there.

The deal about his co-host sounds pretty good though, I wish I could hear it. So many of the people who call into sports talk radio are just clueless.

I think too many times they are hired for their ability to have listeners/viewers talk about their show because of the outrageous things they say and not their knowledge of what they are talking about.

Memphis plays Tennessee in Memphis at 11:00 am local time.

9 am tailgate is a little early for beer, but I think we might do some bloody Mary's and scrambled eggs.

Last week the Coach fired his defensive coordinator after he (as offensive coordinator) contributed to 5 INTs. This one should be over by half-time. We'll see.

I'm actually a little concerned about this game. Memphis normally plays UT tough, though they haven't won since '96. I think it'll be close until the fourth, and then we pull away a little.

Hankins and that passing game worry me a bit, though.

Is it Saturday yet? This week is going by a little too slow for my liking. At least tonight we get an SEC matchup. Auburn at South Carolina. Carolina probably will have a rocking crowd, but unfortunately for them, Auburn is gonna beat them.

No kidding man. Huge conference game for Mizzou and a Sunday Night Bears game this weekend, and this week decides to drag on.

Yeah that will be a nice game to watch tonight. Good quality SEC game (think it will be close until Auburn pulls away in the second half) on a Thursday night and we'll probably get a decent amount of talk on the Iowa/OSU game.

This week is crawling. The worst part will be waiting all day Saturday. Well at least for the players and staff I guess. We'll get a full day of tailgating and basketball scrimmage in Carver to pass the time.

Look out for Wazzu hosting USC on Saturday night.

This week is kinda boring. Only thing that is interesting is OSU/Iowa. Ive watched a lot of CFB this year but probably not that much this weekend.

Virginia Tech-Georgia Tech could be interesting. But yeah, not many good games this weekend.

I'm up by about 3-4 games on my total score for my pick em pool. So this week, I've decided I want to blow that lead by taking Bama, GA Tech, and Colorado.

I'm probably gonna look really dumb.

I hope so. The weekend really needs to come.

I'm pretty pumped for the game. On mutigers.com, they said they expect 55,000-60,000 people. Hopefully we have a boisterous crowd to back our team this Saturday.

You gonna go to Gameday? If so (and I'd imagine it is) what time you getting there? I'm really jealous of all my friends who go to Iowa. They're living a dream this weekend!

A couple of media sources around here have said that Nate Davis, Ball State's true freshman, is getting the start at QB over Joey Lynch, who entered this year as starter for the third time and is a fifth-year senior. Curious move by coach Hoke, but if he's sticking with one, then it's probably the best decision to make.

South Carolina is overmatched, but they may stay in the game for a half.

sweet...interception in the endzone. Will Herring was an All-SEC safety last season, and I'm betting he does the same at OLB this year.

Spurrier's offense is terrible. I love it so much. I am having issues rooting for either team as I'm not sold on Auburn being number two, but I absolutely despise any team Spurrier coaches. Also, I think Herring's pick was a little iffy.

Yep. The crews just got in today and set up the stages and all of that. The crew is flying in tomorrow morning (I think Corso may already be here, but the other two are doing the game tonight) and filming for an hour tomorrow afternoon. I guess that will just be used for stuff on ESPNEWS and SportsCenter.

Saturday morning they aren't allowing people in until 7, but I'm planning on getting there around 8. Then they take that set down at noon and set one up inside Kinnick for the night. I have no idea how they will fit it in there.

My brother-in-law who is currently a student and works in the football program ran into Davie and Musberger this afternoon. Fun times in Iowa City.

SC is playing better than I thought they would.

Agree....they're running the ball much better than I thought they'd be able to against Auburn's D.
