god i hate the steelers so much

One of my favorite parts of the Steelers Super Bowl Champions DVD is where they show the Bengals celebrating after beating the Steelers in Pittsburgh. They're talking copious amounts of trash to the fans, T.J. Houshmfaidhrfad;lfheh is polishing his cleats with a terrible towel, they are doing that ridiculous Who Dey crap, you get the idea. Then we get to the playoff game highlights, and you know the rest.

I think Cincy is still a year or two away, though they have a chance to put the Steelers in an early 1-2 hole. I'll be watching this game in Las Vegas, as I am heading there tomorrow.

if i admit that the who dey crap is ridiculous, you have to admit the terrible towel is ridiculous.

Looks like you will be getting Cin at Pit, which is still a terrific matchup

That is a pretty cool site. Looks like much of the country will be seeing Bears/Vikes this week. I wonder if Fox's A team will be on that game, or the Giants/Seahawks one in the afternoon?

Of course, the Steelers only won that game because Palmer got hurt. If that doesn't happen, I'm pretty sure the outcome of that game would have been very different.

I can't stand how some people (I'm not saying you) use the playoffs to legitimize teams that happen to win in a one-and-done situation. They also got lucky in the Colts game. The Colts played about as poorly as they could've, and it still took a miracle tackle by Big Ben for them to win.

Sure, the Steelers were good last year and took advantage of their opportunities, but there were better teams in the NFL. The Bengals were one of them.

I won't disagree that there were better teams, I will not agree that the Bengals were one of them. I think its ludicrous to definitively say who would have won the game when Palmer went out on the second play of the game. You have no idea how that game would have turned out and neither do I. Did it guarantee a Steeler victory? Sure. But you can't say that if it hadn't happened a Bengal victory was assured.

As for the Indy game, the Steelers punched them in the mouth all day. Its easy to say that a team you think was better played poorly instead of giving the Steelers credit for forcing the issue. The great Peyton Manning had no idea where the blitz was coming from and the defenses were disguised perfectly. You cite "the tackle" as the reason they won, but what about the HORRENDOUS call on the Polamalu interception? The only reason the Colts were in that game at all because of one costly Pittsburgh mistake and a brutal call by the officials.

Also, in the history of sports, the playoffs have decided who is legitimate and who isn't. They are the whole reason that you play the games. The Steelers would not have been a sixth seed if they hadn't had to start Tommy Maddox in two games. He single-handedly gave away the game against Jacksonville last year.

Can't do it. Myron Cope is a Pittsburgh legend and to make such an admission is to throw him under the bus. However, I will refrain from making any more negative Who Dey comments. Deal?

Fair enough, you make some good points in defense of the Steelers. To be totally honest, I don't remember the Steelers/Colts game terribly well (I was more just watching to kill time until I could watch the Bears game).

My point really has to do less with them and more with playoffs in general. To me, they're a lot of fun for the fans and the players, but they mean very little (again, to me) in terms of determining who the best teams really are.

You can if you want to, I agree that who dey is dumb. Just like I think the whole right field bleachers vs. left field bleachers is dumb. I'd rather you make fun of who dey than the actual team.

I'm leading my NFL pick'em pool at work after getting 14 of 16 right last week (12 in week 1). Colts/Jags is an interesting matchup. A lot could depend on Freeney playing. But I think when all is said and done, the short week, travel, back-to-back emotional rivalry games, and the hurry-up offense will help the Colts take this one. However, without Freeney, it becomes an issue of can the Colts CB cover the skyscrapers at WR with Leftwich having time to pass.

As for other games, TB wasn't that great last year. Carolina is a legit contender. A 3rd loss, and their season is done. I think they step up and get it done.

Also, this is the week to watch out for the oft ridiculed teams. San Fran, Houston, Green Bay, and Tennessee have good shots at upsets. I'm calling at least 2 of those teams will win.

I wouldn't consider Green Bay over Detroit an upset. They are both horrible.

So why is no one talking about the NYG vs Sea game? To me its a match up of 2 of the top3 teams in the NFC (with Chicago being the 3rd). I think that this has a chance to be the best game of the weekend and of course I don't get it in So Cal. Who cares about the niners!

i hate you

that doesnt count as attacking the poster, does it?

Oh yeah, and it would be an upset considering Vegas has Miami as a 10.5 point favorite, I believe. So technically it would be the biggest upset.

Okay, that's fair. I still wouldn't consider it an upset though.

And don't hate me. I root for Miami in almost every game they play, my dad is a Dolphins fan, and I grew up loving Marino. They suck though. If you still hate me, then I hope you get banned for attacking the poster.

Something to think about when picking the Colts/Jags game this week...

The Colts listed 21 players as questionable on Wednesday's injury report: LB Gary Brackett (calf); RB Ran Carthon (finger); T Ryan Diem (hand); RB De De Dorsey (ankle); DE Dwight Freeney (buttock); LB Gilbert Gardner (hand); CB Nick Harper (ankle); TE Ben Hartsock (hamstring); LB Freddie Keiaho (knee); DE Ryan LaCasse (foot); G Ryan Lilja (knee); DT Montae Reagor (knee); DT Darrell Reid (elbow); S Bob Sanders (shoulder); G Jake Scott (knee); DT Corey Simon (knee); QB Jim Sorgi (right shoulder); WR Brandon Stokley (ankle); DE Josh Thomas (hip); TE Ben Utecht (concussion); K Adam Vinatieri (right groin).

Just to let you know, that's been our usual since the start of the season. I believe we had 22 questionables in week 1, and it turned into 26 players on the injury report (although a few were upgraded also) by Friday. Last week, that number went to about 16 questionables, and now it's back up. Here's what I know about the questionables that matter.

Will Play-Brackett, Diem, Gardner, Harper, Sanders, Scott, Thomas, Utecht

Expected to Play-Reagor

Gametime Decision-Vinatieri, Freeney, Stokley-my guess is that Vinatieri and Freeney will play (with Freeney being the more likely of the two to play), and Stokely will probably sit out.

Not likely to play-Simon

I would make fun of the Bengals themselves, but since they were so supportive of my fellow lawyers this offseason, I shall refrain.

Bob Sanders will take a bullet to the face and still play. The Colts should know better than to put him on a silly injury list.

Thursday means it's time for me to make my picks. I did a little better in week two than week one, and here we go keeping in mind these picks are for recreational purposes only.

Washington (-4) at Houston. Washington is in a 0-2 hole and last place in the NFC East. They should get Portis back for this game, and Houston has looked atrocious. The Redskins will cover the spread easily. This is my lock of the week;I'll take Washington (-4).

NY Jets (+5.5) at Buffalo. Neither of these teams impress me. Buffalo is at home. I smell upset here. Give me Jets (+5.5).

Jacksonville (+7) at Indianapolis. How good are the Jags this year? They've beaten both Pittsburgh and Dallas, and now they take to the road to face the Colts. I have a feeling this will be a close game. I think it will be won by a field goal, which isn't enough to cover the points. Give me Jaguars (+7).

Green Bay (+7) at Detroit. The Packers are probably the worst team in the NFL. Detoit should win this one by ten. Give em Lions (-7).

Cincinnat (+2) at Pittsburgh. Something didn't look right with Rothlisberger on Monday night, and contrary to popular opinion, I think the Bengals were actually the better team last year too. I'll take Cincinnatti (+2).

Tennesee (+10.5) at Miami. Dolphins win the game by a touchdown. Titans cover the spread. Titans (+10.5)

Chicago (-3) at Minnesota. The Vikings are looking good this year. The Bears, however, are looking dominating. Give me Chicago (-3).

Carolina (-3) at Tampa Bay. Both of these teams have looked pathetic early on. Tampa is at home and a three point underdog. I like the home team in match-ups like this, especially when taking the hometeam follows the points. Buccaneers (+3).

Baltimore (-6.5) at Cleveland. Cleveland will eventually win a game. It won't happen this week. Ravens (-6.5).

NY Giants (+3.5) at Seattle. The Giants nearly were blown out by Philadelphia last week, Onle a monumental meltdown by the Eagle defense let them back in the game. I doubt Seattle makes that mistake. Seahawks (-3.5).

Philadelphia (-6) over San Francisco. Take the Eagles here with confidence. Philadelphia (-6).

St. Louis (+4.5) at Arizona. I like the Cardinals in this match-up. Look for Warner to connect once each to Fitzgerald and Boldin and Edge will add a third TD. Cardinals (-4.5).

Denver (+7) at New England. The Patriots may be good. They are not seven points better than the Broncos. Denver (+7).

Atlanta (-3.5) at New Orleans. A battle of unbeatens takes place Monday night in the reopening of the Super Dome. Head says Falcons, gut says Saints, Voo Doo magic says something strange will occur Monday night in the Saints' home opener. Going against all odds, give me Saints (+3.5).

Thursday means it's time for me to make my picks. I did a little better in week two than week one, and here we go keeping in mind these picks are for recreational purposes only.

Washington (-4) at Houston. Washington is 0-2, but they are not a good team. Weak at QB, short at WR, average everywhere else. Carr is the 2nd highest rated QB this year. The O-line is getting better, and the Skins haven't rushed the passer at all this year. I'm taking Houston in this one at home.

NY Jets (+5.5) at Buffalo. Buffalo has a strong defense. They gave Brady and Culpepper fits. They will do the same to Pennington. The offense is not making mistakes, which is a key for them. Jets haven't stopped anyone. Buffalo and the points.

Jacksonville (+7) at Indianapolis. This is tough. I think the Colts will win, but it's hard to say they'll beat the spread. A say the Jags hang tough and just beat the spread with a late score.

Green Bay (+7) at Detroit. Green Bay wins, beats spreads.

Cincinnat (+2) at Pittsburgh. I think Cincy may have been a better team last year. Probably are this year too. Pitt at home gives them the edge. Pitt and points.

Tennesee (+10.5) at Miami. Dolphins win the game by a touchdown. Titans cover the spread. Titans (+10.5) Agreed

Chicago (-3) at Minnesota. The Vikings are looking good this year. The Bears, however, are looking dominating. Give me Chicago (-3). Agreed.

Carolina (-3) at Tampa Bay. I like the desperate team in matchups like this. Carolina is supposed to contend. TB was a projected 5th seed at best. Panthers and points

Baltimore (-6.5) at Cleveland. I don't know why, but I think it's closer than people think. I'd take the Dawgs to beat the spread.

NY Giants (+3.5) at Seattle. Giants have had this one circled since the playoff embarrassment. I think the Giants are a great team.

Philadelphia (-6) over San Francisco. Eagles haven't played the pass well at all. SF will be in for a shootout. I think this ends much like SF's week 1 loss to Arizona, where they lose by a 8-10.

St. Louis (+4.5) at Arizona. Zona big. Rams strong in the opener. Not sold their a changed team.

Denver (+7) at New England. Agree take Denver to beat the spread. They could pull the upset too. They embarrassed the Pats twice last season. I hate Plummer, but he's not THIS bad.

Atlanta (-3.5) at New Orleans. It would be great if the Saints won. Hard to believe they can hold Vick, Dunn, and co. under 250 yards, though. ATL and points.
