Nevin had third best OPS on team...

...among regulars, and his OBP ranked fifth. Of course Jim Hendry would need someone to explain those terms to him, but you'd think he might have caught on that Nevin is more productive than Mabry.

And this proves....what, exactly?

Nevin doesn't serve much, if any purpose for this team's future. He was a late addition stopgap to help staunch the offesnive blood loss that Lee's injury led to. He's an appealing option for teams shooting for the playoffs that need some pop off the bench. Mabry is not. How do you propose that they sell Mabry as easily?

I think that other teams caught on to the fact also..that's why Hendry was able to probably get more for Nevin then he could ever get for Mabry for two guys who were going to be FA's at the end of the season.

Yeah, but all we got was cash and a PTBNL. How is that considered a good haul for this organization? Why not just keep Nevin as a platoon partner in right and DFA plan B? My point is, they basically gave him away.

First off, the whoever would have traded for him would have him for only 1 month (plus playoffs if they make it). What do you expect for 1 month? Plus, if they gave us anybody decent now, that person would have to clear waivers and somebody decent wouldn't. Thus, the PTBNL could be decent (Kottaras is still officially a PTBNL for the Sox) but probably not because their getting a so-so power bat for the bench for a month. As for next season, Nevin has no desire to be a platoon player or bench player for any length of time, thus, he wouldn't re-sign anyway.

1: Nevin is more valuable to a contending team, then to the Cubs.

2: Wiith Lee back, and Mabry as back, not to mention Pagan/Pierre/Murton/Jones in the OF, Nevin had no place on this team.

3: Nevin would not re-sign with the Cubs to bench a bench player.

4: There are rumors that he is a real-life version of Jack Parkman. (Major League 2 bad guy) I say that because there are rumors that he has an ego that doesn't sit well in the clubhouse.

5: Trading Nevin opens up a spot for a player who might have value to the Cubs..

Completely off topic, does anybody besides me pronounce PTBNL as "putt-bunnel?"

:-s

Do we want to know why you think that?

Because thats how it sounds if you try to pronounce it...

..get your mind out of the gutter :P

I always pronounced it more like "Pa-tub Nul"
