i want Rich Hill to have my sister's babies.

You don't want Rich Hill's sister to have your babies?

Hill is still the AAAA pitcher many people were calling him earlier. His recent results are a result of a conspiracy among other teams. They've agreed to lay down and play dead when Hill pitches to fool Hendry into a false sense of security about what he has going into next season. Then next year, after Hendry doesn't acquire a top-line starter because he thinks he already has it, other teams will start hitting him again and he'll be exposed as the AAAA player he really is. No, I don't really believe that.

If you write off Prior, we'd need someone to be the number two.

I believe it is safe to say now, that the "number 2" you are looking for is already on the roster. Rich Hill is the sh**.

Pun intended.

But seriously, the way Hill is throwing, he is the ace of the staff. And all the crap Hendry took for not trading him away needs to be taken back. Hendry was right to keep him.

Hill and Zambrano are a very good top of the rotation. Prior, if healthy and effective, a BIG if, would make that an incredible front three. I believe Mateo is the closest to being ready to succeed at the major league level of the remaining Cubs pitchers, but I'm not willing to pencil him in anywhere just yet. That is why signing two veteran starters would be a good idea. I just don't know if they can afford it.

Iowa should be interesting next season with a potential rotation including Mateo, Guzman, Marshall, Marmol and Gallagher, not to mention Ryu. Depending on which FAs get signed and how players perform next spring, one or more of those names could/should be with the big club, but its risky to count on that happening, thus signing 2 FAs would be ideal. Realistic? Probably not, but ideal.

is that really necessary? Wouldn't it just be easier to let him get hurt?

If the rotation holds...... only 2 more chances to watch Hill pitch this year.

Stuff like Hill getting a chance to take his lumps is exactly why I wanted the Cubs to fall out of the race quickly in 2006. I had hoped Pie would be here too, and that at least one other rookie SP would create some excitement.

The books not out on him yet either!

I agree. Hill probably should have been doing this out of ST, but he didn't have it all figured out upstairs. The stuff hasn't changed. That isn't Hendry's fault. Hill's ETA just got pushed back a little. I'm glad he's here now.

*If* Prior is healthy next season, we're looking at a filthy rotation, and that's not even considering acquisitions in the offseason.

Zambrano's numbers this year concern me. His BB/9 is way up this year, and so his is FIP. His GB% is down from 50% last year to 46.8% this year. Maybe (hopefully) it's just an aberration, but I'm not so sure.

I love crow. Cause god knows im eating it right now. I could never understand why people liked this guy. Always seemed like a one-pitch guy to me.

I was wrong. yay.

I'm concerned too. And I'm also concerned about his health - back injuries scare me.

Hill could probably have even better #'s if this organization wasn't

so ignorant with handling young players.

He got shelled against the Sox(the famous Barrett punch game)

then was exiled to AAA for nearly 2 months.

He should have had at least one more start after that game to redeem himself.

oh well whats done is done. I'm glad he's back and dominant.

We'll never know. However, I would have let him pitch in the rotation pretty consistently after he demonstrated mastery in AAA for much of last year and the early part of this season.

At the same time, we don't know if the demotion did him some good too.

There is no way to prove it one way or the other.

My bad, I was just excited about Hill's start. The kid is looking really good and his recent performances have me feeling much better about our potential rotation next year.

If we could land a top of the rotation FA pitcher, I think the staff could be quite good.

Z

FA -- Zito, Schmidt, The kid from Japan

Prior

Hill

Miller

However, I'm not sure any of those acquisitions is realistic. Schmidt is probably headed to Seattle, Zito is going to cost a ton, and the kid from Japan has other more likely suitors. It may be worth it to pay for Zito and I would be in favor of keeping Miller at the back of the rotation to make it work since he would probably come cheap.
