Played SS tonight for Texas. He turned a 6-3 DP and the ever so tough 3-6-1 DP. He played all 9 innings, after only 6 there in his career. He played 2 innings at SS as a Cub in 2005. Would have been nice to give him a legit shot there after Nomar got hurt.

Seriously, what happened to Hairston? Didn't he have at least decent offense with Baltimore?

The Cubs beat that being a selective hitter crap right out of him.

I never understood the fascination with Hairston when we got him other than many absolutely hated Perez. That isn't a reason to want to play him over Perez. They both sucked and they both still suck. It's like choosing mono over chicken pox. I'm glad they're both gone. We never should've acquired either one in the first place.

For the record, I was in no way clamoring for Hairston back. But when Nomar went down, the Cubs knew Neifi would give them a .280 OBP and above average defense. JHJr at least had the potential to get on base at an average level.

Hairston sucks.

terrible come back, state reasons why you think that way. NSBB tries to pride itself on not being like the Cub board.

Why waste my time pointing out why he sucks?

Everyone that follows the Cubs knows that Hairston was garbage.

I could provide a detailed laundry list "why Hairston sucks"but I would like to save space on the server to be honest.

Then why give any response?

Actually I think Neifi would be shingles.

Because people saw he had a few good years of OBP, yet never saw him play.

It was a little more than that...many of us were hoping we were getting a solid OBP guy. Hairston's OBP by year for the four years preceeding our acquisition of him went like this: .305, .329, .353, .378. That's four years in a row of improvement, and he was 28 when we acquired him, meaning we were getting a guy who was peaking and had displayed quality on-base skills. Plus, he was advertised to be pretty decent defensively too with plus speed (30 SB potential) when healthy. The only real knock on him when we got him was that he was injury prone.

I thought it was a good pickup at the time when we got him. I would have liked to have gotten more for Sammy, but nonetheless, I had high hopes for JHJR.
