No offense, but do we really need another Neifi thread?

Neifi leaving is the best thing to happen to the Cubs since 1908. You can't have too many threads about that! :D

Well if he can play solid D, get a few timely hits, and keep himself from doing anything terribly dumb it isn't a bad deal. I am sure they will dump him next season. He isn't a bad bench player if that's all he is for them next year.

No that's incorrect. He's horrible, he shouldn't be on ANY bench in MLB, he's beyond horrible, he's not even that great defensively for the cost, you can find any number of adequate 25th men on the bench for the league minimum.

Pretty much under no circumstance should Neifi Perez be on a big league squad.

Plus for the Tigers, they have to pay all 2.5 million of his next years salary.

My first post- here goes:

As a Detroit resident and Cub fan taking some interest in the Tigers resurgence this year, I happened to turn on the Tigers game for one of Neifi's at bats last night.

As Neifi stepped in, the announcers commented on what a great pickup he was for them, how they didn't have to give up much to get him, etc. This made me smile.

After Neifi hit a long fly ball which was well foul, the announcers commented on how Neifi has "some power," citing his 9 home runs for the Cubs recently (last year maybe?). This made me chuckle.

Neifi then grounded into a double play to end the inning. I openly wept tears of joy...

At least Leyland has enough sense not to bat him 2nd.

That may not last. Looks like Leyland has as big of a man crush as DB did.

From rotoworld.com

Tigers managed Jim Leyland said he plans to use Neifi Perez over Omar Infante at second base for now.

"I loved him in 1999 (with the Colorado Rockies) and I still love him," Leyland said. "He's got energy." If that's all it takes, maybe Richard Simmons can be signed to take over in left field. Even as a regular, Perez would have little value in AL-only leagues

Seriously why do managers think he is good?

I can't beleive those dumb wankers paid for him.

That made me laugh. Loud.

:D it's the first thing that came to mind. So I just posted.

He doesn't strike out a lot? I have no idea.

Here's an example of Neifi saving the Tigers. Despite his negative contributions at the plate, here we see him keeping his teammates loose, thus allowing them to play better. In this picture, Neifi is delighting teammate Carlos Guillen with his Jack Nicholson impersonation. Carlos Guillen would go 2-3 with 2 runs scored. Coincidence, I think not.

Welcome to the board! And, great story. I love this completely unjustified and, to be honest, disturbing love for Neifi that so many managers and commentators have.

Neifi obviously has some sort of access to pictures of Bud Selig in a compromising position of some sort, and is using it as blackmail to make Bud put pressure on owners and managers to give his worthless backside a job...

Guess who's leading off for the Tigers tonight?

Yes, I'm serious.

Well, that kills any interest I might have had in Leyland.

Check out the Tigers offensive stats for this year. This has been a very lucky team and Leyland is getting a lot of undeserved credit, imo.
