Can't we play in Derby? The only time I've been to Pride Park I was violently ill throughout the (two hour) journey there and the whole game, which Town lost 2-1 anyway.

 

*Though I did go to a 3-2 defeat the old Baseball Ground where the home fans were in a tier above us and were throwing plastic bags full of urine down on us. To this day, I still can't see of Dean Sturridge without thinking of pee.

The word censor is glitchy on words that start with f-u.

 

Yeah, honestly, I haven't played since HS either (except for pickup games) but I'm guessing my endurance isn't going to be matched. It'll be interesting to see what I can do since I haven't played regularly in about 7 years. I was a midfielder in HS. :)

I think some of the guys actually think that they'll be playing Derby in a couple weeks. :) I haven't played since just after the time when we started learning that there were more positions than just "ball chaser". However, I'm happy to fill out the side if Derby does come calling and you need an 11th on the pitch.

 

Maybe I can be manager*, since that's what I came here to brag about. I don't know how many are still following their Premier League fantasy teams. I've moved up to 3rd in the NSBB league, but my 'real team' which is not in the NSBB league is now in 26th place. Overall. Out of 1.3 milllion teams. It's the #2 team in the USA, by 3 points. Quite a thrilling run, really, to see your team on the front page of the overall leaderboard.

 

* Many of you guys seem to know a lot more about tactics etc., so in reality I'd be a poor choice for manager. I just follow the PL pretty closely. Still willing to be the 11th man, though!

Freddy Adu scored his first European goal to help lead Benfica to a come from behind Taça de Portugal penalty kick shootout win over fellow Superliga team Estrela da Amadora.

 

Brazilian Mauricio slammed home the opener for the hosts in the 36th minute after having been left unmarked by the Benfica defense.

 

After the interval, Adu entered in place of ineffective Uruguayan Maximiliano Pereira.

 

Seconds from defeat, the American was surprisingly the player elected to take a penalty kick when Wagnão, who had been on the field for less than three minutes, committed a handball in the area.

 

Adu slammed home the penalty to level the match and send it to an eventual penalty kick lottery.

 

The 18-year old was also given the honor of the first kick in the shootout, and his opener was cancelled out by Amadora's Mateus.

 

The two teams traded successful kicks - including one from Benfica keeper Hans-Jörg Butt - until Amadora striker Yonathan Auyanet skied one well over the bar with the hosts fifth kick.

 

With the chance to win, Andres Diaz sent the Eagles to the next round by burying his kick past Pedro Alves.

okay seriously can anyone explain why hope solo was benched for brianna scurry today? Hope Solo is a better player now, and she had played well (and pitched 300 shutout minutes in a row) coming into the game. Then you switch and go to someone who hasn't played, because she used to be good and has a good track record against Brazil? Don't get me wrong, the U.S. got outplayed and was probably losing that game no matter what, but the decision to go with Scurry was incredibly stupid, IMO. And I don't blame Solo for saying that the Ryan made the wrong decision, because he did.

Ryan said it was because Brazil was good enough to get shots at close range, and that Scurry was one of the best in the world at reaction saves. He was obviously wrong.

Yeah I dont get the move either, but i dont think it would have changed much. 2 of the goals Solo might have stopped but I dont think that she could have stopped the own goal. I can understand why she called out the coach and she was justified. But I dont think that she should have been putting down Scurry which she seemed to do. It was not Scurry's fault that Ryan put her in and she is your teammate so you should support her.
