I know it's womens soccer but...

Abby Wambach just had a very nice goal for the US against Sweden. She had a great chest trap off a cross and hit a nice half-volley past the goalie to give the US a 2-0 lead.

nothin wrong with that... i like watching the ladies play. They looked very strong against Sweden; a better all-around game than against Korea. 2-0 was the final and the U.S. team definitely carried the play throughout. If they can play that way for the remainder of the tourney, I'd expect them to win.

If it were legal, I would have just placed my first wager on a soccer match ever. Again, if it were legal, there would only be one game currently available to still bet on in England. That would be New Castle v Derby County.

If I was going to place a bet on this game, I would bet 20 dollars that there would be more than 2.5 goals total.

Finally got around to watching the US/Brazil match and it sure looked like I missed a pretty entertaining one. The officiating was a shame, but I was impressed overall.

I wonder who is going to end up buying Clint after this season?

as long as he stays in the prem, i'd be happy.

I just bet on an MLS game. What is my life coming to?

Come on Houston for the win!

if it were legal, where would you hypothetically be betting on-line?

Yes, and I would hypothetically have just won some cash on the easiest, most predictable bet ever: Houston vs Los Angeles and if Houston wins they clinch a playoff berth and regain first in the west. No way the Galaxy was going to be able to stop that.

I would bet, say, £5 on Michael Owen being injured again.

(Newcastle is one word, by the way. It 'abbreviates' to Toon')

Feilhaber just came on for Derby who lead 1-0 with about 10 minutes left.

Hopefully he scores a quick double and I make money.

Seriously, all of a sudden Derby decided it has competent defense?

Owen can't stay hot and score a few?

Thanks, guys.

The English language is weird when used by it's inventors.

Owen went off - I wasn't listening at the time, but the commentators say he looked like he had a 'twinge'.

Injury time now, 4 minutes.

Michael Owen must infuriate people in England. He's like an Italian sports car.

For those who don't know, the Champions League group stage begins tomorrow. FC Porto-Liverpool is on ESPN2 tomorrow and Sporting Lisbon-Man United is on Wednesday.

Schedule

Standings

Group C (Lazio, Olympiacos, Real Madrid, Werder Bremen) and Group D (AC Milan, Benfica, Celtic) look like the toughest groups.

Man United and Roma are also paired together in Group F.

Everyone loves him.

I think he was over-played, because of Liverpool's desperation to find a partner for Fowler and a replacement for Rush, too young and finds himself injury prone now - and has been for a while now. Too much stress on the still-developing body is not such a good thing.

I'm supporting (as ever) Valencia and Olympique de Marseille in this year's tournament. I expect more from the former than the latter, who couldn't win a prize in a Reader's Digest draw at the moment.

Oh, and additionally, I might (25% chance, apparently) be going to Anfield to see Liverpool against OM. My mate is certainly going.

Unless he contracts dengue fever or something.

I don't think my shipment will make it in in time.
