I was also really impressed with that backheel give from Adu (to Altidore, I believe) that almost worked for a goal. Say what you will about the hype, but the kid is very exciting.

It seems like most of the hype and unrealistic expectations have faded quite a bit. More and more people beginning to see him for what he is right now and what his future holds.

It might not have worked out exactly how the MLS would have liked, but they'll still be laughing to the bank soon enough.

And instead of telling me to get a working TV, how about you go and watch the three UCLA players on that roster sometime.

What? I've seen Beltran and Zizzo play before a UCLA.

Can we promote Thomas Rongen to the Men's National Team with these kids once they go?

That's funny. I posted this exact same sentiment yesterday on another site. I really like the style with which the kids play and how aggressive they are.

The US gets Uruguay in the round of 16. They are a tough team to get an idea of looking at the groups. Tied Spain who won the group and lost to Zambia 2-0. Overall 3 goals for and 4 against. Hopefully the US offense will continue to attack throughout the entire match, as they have scored the most goals of any team so far.

Brazil get through but draw Spain in the next game. Potential Mexico-Argentina matchup in the Quarterfinals.

Good for you. They'll announce at the last minute that a number of players aren't appearing, after which the players you want to see that do appear will do so for 45 minutes at most and will jog around halfheartedly.

The Galaxy will tie them 1-1, after which Alexei Lalas will say that it's a sign that MLS sides are as good as teams like Chelsea.

It is indeed. I've got a load lined up over the next couple of weeks;

Emley vs. Huddersfield ( :D - My first view of my team this season)

Capenhurst vs. Marine (First trip to Capenhurst, and first time I've ever heard it exists)

Connah's Quay vs. Trafford (Nomads going home)

Huddersfield vs. Blackburn

Gillingham vs. Colchester (First view of Miss Marco's team for the season)

Dartford vs. Hastings (First trip to an eco-stadium).

There will be more. One this Saturday - undecided yet.

This is.

That's pretty neat, are there any more in the works?

I'd imagine so, given the awards and such that its won, but I'm not aware of any.

I just caught all the youtube highlights of the group matches and I was blown away. That is the style that we should be playing. Attack attack attack. Like some others have said, it was refreshing to see, I don't know, a well-struck through ball. The finishing by Altidore, Adu, and Szetela has been outstanding. Altidore's goal against Brazil nearly brought me to tears. Do we have two guys on the USMNT that could finish that play? I think its definitely time to get some of these kids up to the big club.

To Chelsea's credit they played most of their big guns last summer when they came to Chicago. I was afraid they were going to do exactly as you said. The halfhearted jogging part is pretty close to reality, though there were a few surprising sliding tackles made by Michael Essien.

The bottom line was the trip to LA to see them wouldn't be worth the 1,000 or so it would've cost to make the trip. I'm going to Boston and NY instead. :D

Scratch Capenhurst vs. Marine, its been moved back a week, so I can't go. More disappoint for my mate, who's had to take the day off work for it. :x

Marco...What do you know about Preston North End? Raley Field here in Sacramento is hosting an exhibition game in a couple weeks between Preston and Monterrey of the Mexican League - which I'll probably be covering - so I was just curious as to if you had any info on them.

Upper level Championship team.

First 'great' team in English football (won the first ever league title)

David Nugent - currently still with Preston - is talked up as the next 'big thing' of English strikers (think Andy Johnson level hype - though they're different sorts of players).

Managed by Paul Simpson - ex of Carlisle and Rochdale (both local-ish clubs)

Patrick Agyemang scored a wonderful overhead kick for them in a game against Norwich

last season. Edited by Marco4

Deepdale - their home ground - is home to the English Football Museum. One of the stands there has the face of Sir Tom Finney (who, if I recall correctly, played in the USA 1-0 England game of the 1950 World Cup) picked out in the seats.

Ed - Yes, he did.
