Argentina up 3-0 now, Mexico is getting outclassed(a difficult thing to do, I know).

Mexico never had class to begin with

Stone the crows, that was some goal from Messi. You can use all the superlatives in your world to describe that one.

Since I get neither ESPNU or Galavision, I watched Argentina toy with Mexico. What's funny about that game is that Mexico had two absolutely golden chances to go up 1-0 in the first half, but both were blown in glorious fashion by players being stupid. But it didn't matter, since Argentina probably could have put 10 in if they'd wanted to. That's how much better than Mexico they are.

Messi's chip was sicksicksicksicksick. Also, wathcing Riquelme embarass O'Sanchez on the OK was glorious.

messi is going to be the best player in the world in 2 years. he's not far from it right now, but the fact that he's just turned 20 years old about 2 weeks ago, makes his future brighter than we can imagine.

Cristiano Ronaldo says hi. Messi's great, but Ronaldo is better than anyone running around on a field anywhere.

Running being the key word there, because Ronaldo doesn't realize he has teammates half the time.

Normally it pisses me off when players do that on a PK, but for Sanchez I make an exception.

Anything that makes Oswaldo look stupid is worth it. I laughed when Riquelme hit the ball.

I missed it, what did he do on the PK.

He ran up to hit it, and when Oswaldo dove, Riquelme nonchalantly slowed down his foot and chipped it lazily right down the middle where Oswaldo was. By the time the ball hit the net, Sanchez was getting up from where he dove to.

It was hilarious.

Oooo, I don't know about that. I think he gets a bad rap because he's a very flashy player, but he's extremely creative, and usually finds teamates in good positions to finish. I think part of the probl;em is that his teamates aren'tr eady for some of the balls he gives them. Sometimes he screws himself up trying to dribble thru traffic, but half the time he does that something good happens.

I can't think of a more talented player in nearly every phase of the game than Cristiano. Maybe Kaka, but Kaka doesn't have the pace of Ronaldo. He's so, so, so good.

The Italians call it "Il cucchaio"

Totti does it from time to time. The ultimate insult.

I remember someone trying it in the League Two playoff finals (Liam Lawrence). He'd played Huddersfield off the park for 120 minutes and then did that. It would have been his crowning glory if he didn't slip and hit the top of the crossbar, like a tool.

I was kidding mostly. I don't get to see a ton of international soccer, but I've probably seen Ronaldo as much as any foreign player between Man U and the World Cup, and it seems several times a game he tries to dribble through about 18 defenders over a 50 yard span. Impressive that it takes him so long to get dispossessed, but futile nonetheless.

I've probably seen 25 Man U games in the last year. He probably creates something out of nothing 7 times out of 10 runs like that down the wing. He'll win a deep throw, draw a foul, shoot or set someone up. The reason he tried to dribble backs is because there isn't a back in Europe that can run with him, let alone keep up with the jukes.

The one thing I will say he does too often is look for his own shot. He seems to have a very quick trigger from distance.

Yeah, it's not something I would ever try in a shootout.

right now, the best player in the world is either cristiano ronaldo or kaka. i really think in a few more years messi will eclipse them both, mostly because he's been so brilliant at such a young ago, and he's playing on one of the best teams in the world, while makind deep runs into the champions league every year.

ronaldo definitely has gotten a bad rap because he's viewed as a pretty boy, and his antics at the world cup. he does try to be too cute with his dribbling and some absurd passing attempts. all that included, he's still one of the best in the world. all the more amazing i think he put up his best season this past year, while getting pounded by the english press and by the fans on the road. he's class, but annoying as hell.

The adversity Ronaldo faces in England playing for a team everyone hates, in a country that nearly completely hates him, with a completely insane teamate that probably hates everyone around him, being hacked and beaten weekly by defenders and mids that hate him...let's just say that it's something Messi and Kaka don't have to deal with.

Here'san interesting article from Vanity Fair about the Ivory Coast football team. It spotlights Didier Drogba (one of my personal favorites) and the struggles the country has been enduring because of its civil war. football has seemed to play a role in reducing the violence and trouble in the country.

Also, David Beckham's debut for the Galaxy vs. Chelsea will be on ESPN, July 21st at 7:00.

I believe that Messi will eventually pass Ronaldo to be the best player in the world. Both are outstanding, of course. Ronaldo does have a tendency to go one on 18 (as was said) too often, and look for his shot too much (especially from distance).

As for Kaka, he was a disappointment in the World Cup and was invisible for huge portions of the Champions League Final (though he did have an assist and was likely the best player overall in the tournament). For that reason, I don't put him in the same category; he doesn't impose his will on the game as well as others. I don't like Ronaldo (big surprise there), but you never forget he's in a game.

Aside from his considerable talent, that's what I think seperates Ronaldo from Messi, Kaka and the other great players. Ronaldo imposes his will on nearly every game he's in. He's so aggressive, and so confident that he's willing to take his game to an opponent.

In the game where Man U dismantled Roma, he was the best player on the field by a wide, wide margin. His runs, and Roma's fear of his runs, let directly to about 5 goals.

When Didier Drogba scored for Chelsea at Paris SG, and leapt into the crowd shouting 'Allez l'OM' at them, it was as great a moment as you could wish to see. The Parisians were unamused, amusingly.

Are Parisians amused by anything other than their smug sense of self satisfaction?

 - I tried to leave that suggested rather than direct.
