I just saw the whole Joey Barton thing. I can't wait to find out how many games he gets suspended for. You have an elbow to the face, a Terrying of Aguero and the attempted headbutt of Kompany.

That was one hell of a meltdown.

He also would have fought Mario Balotelli on his way out had the police not intervened.

In fairness, Tevez was clearly baiting him on the television images just prior to the incident, and he got what he was looking for (i.e. Barton was sent off).

The rest was obviously uncalled for.

The rest was just practical strategy. His team was fighting relegation and he got sent off. Might as well try to bait some City players into getting sent off to even the playing field. Almost worked. Micah Richards had to pull Balotelli away by the shirt.

 I hadn't thought of that. In that case Balotelli was indeed an obvious target.

On twitter he claimed that's what he was trying to do. That was my thought at the time, but with Barton, you never know.

So Klinsy released a preliminary 16 player roster for World Cup Qualifying and it's, well, I don't know.

Goalkeepers: Brad Guzan (Aston Villa), Tim Howard (Everton), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake)

Defenders: Carlos Bocanegra (Rangers), Edgar Castillo (Club Tijuana), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover), Alfredo Morales (Hertha Berlin)

Midfielders: Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Michael Bradley (Chievo Verona), Joe Corona (Club Tijuana), Maurice Edu (Rangers), Fabian Johnson (Hoffenheim), Jermaine Jones (Schalke 04), Jose Torres (Pachuca), Danny Williams (Hoffenheim)

Forwards: Clint Dempsey (Fulham)

Edgar Castillo and no Eric Lichaj is ridiculous. Is Gooch hurt? Torres over Kljestan is dumb. There's a lot of questions with this roster. Apparently Chandler is out because he's tired (doesn't want to cap tie himself officially because he's a frankenstein looking scumbag) and Terrence Boyd is in but not officially announced.

Sacha played like garbage against Italy, and Juergen doesn't rate him to begin with, so I get that one. Castillo has absolutely no business on a WCQ roster, ever ever ever, and ditto for Morales. Does he have any first team minutes this time around at least? He's a defender in the Primera, which in and of itself is an oxymoron. Lichaj needs to be there. Gooch and Jozy will surely be added on, and we have got to find a better CB than Goodson at some point in the next year.

And Timothy Chandler can absolutely go [expletive] himself. He's dead to me as far as US players are concerned.

Kljestan needs a break anyway - Anderlecht just finished a packed schedule and he's played far too many games in a short period.

The Red Sox fired Kenny Daglish.

Based on the Red Sox's hiring decisions I am guessing there is a 50/50 chance that Maradona is the next manager of Liverpool. I would pay to watch that meltdown.

Terrence Boyd on USMNT: "Anytime you can play for your country it's just the biggest honor you can get; it's like a dream, just sick."

Well, even though you're not playing first team soccer, we're glad to have you, Terrence. Great attitude. [expletive] Chandler.

Soccer is returning to Wrigley Field, as Italy’s AS Roma and Poland’s Zaglebie Lubin will square off for an international “Friendly at the Confines” July 22 at 2:30 p.m. CDT following the Ron Santo Hall of Fame induction ceremony and other Santo tributes for fans that day at Wrigley Field to be announced later.

Quite an odd way to celebrate Ron Santo. Was he a soccer fan?

I don't really think they are linked events, they're just on the same day.

Agudelo to Chivas USA for Heath Pearce, allocation money and a percentage of future sell-on fee.

Happy to see Juan go where he'll get a full 90 and away from Backe.

The Guatemala WCQ on June 12 is PPV, not broadcast. [expletive]. I'll have to find a bar.

Al Jazeera is buying the rights to like every league in starting after next year. I'm worried Ray Hudson is going to be out of a job. We've had it really good in the US with all the leagues we get. I hope they don't [expletive] it up.
