Chelsea 1

Man U 0

Drogba scored in the 115th.

Suprising that a double winning season can be considered disappointing. I'm expecting a major overhaul of the roster and hopefully another defender to add some depth.

Chelsea's central defenders are pretty poor.

This was a very blah game. Man U were gassed, and both teams had been shellacked so hard by injuries that it's not hard to believe it took extra time to decide it.

Chelsea might need some depth there, but I wouldn't say Terry and Carvalho are poor. Far from it.

I'd agree. Terry is solid, Carvalho has really come on this season and looked real strong (when healthy). Right back is the glaring weakness of Chelsea's defense. Geremi is not good and moving a player the class of Michael Essien out of the midfield to right back should only be done when there are no other options. Clearly, Chelsea has the finances to make sure there are other options.

It looks like Arjen Robben is already being moved to Bayern Munchen. Owen Hargreaves is moving to Manchester United, to play and live in England for the first time in his life, even though he plays for England's senior squad.

I didn't shell out the money for the ppv, but the commentary i was reading said it was sluggish and not a good match. the early stories in the english papers echo that.

It was an utterly tedious game. I don't particularly like Premiership football at the best of times, and this was one of the games I can hold up to illustrate why. All build up and no excitement.

Although I would like to know where Didier Drogba ran off to after the game.

More excitingly, OM qualified for the Champions League yesterday and Samir Nasri got the best hope of the season for Ligue 1.

just a reminder of the Champions League Final.

I can't wait. As a Liverpool fan, I'm already excited/nervous. After what happened a couple years ago, I'm not terribly optimistic for this one.

PS I can't believe the commercials for the game pump up Liverpool's two weapons, Gerrard...and Crouch. I like Crouch, but wow.

yeah, i had a chuckle when i saw that commercial too. i'm guessing espn picked him because he was talked up quite a bit during last summer's world cup and he's more familiar to an american audience than kuyt or mascherano, or whomever else they'd pick.

Yeah, I'm sure he's the second most (or, heck, maybe even the most) recognizable name to Americans from Liverpool. He's an anomaly at 6-7 and basically a novelty. Oh well, it's just funny to me.

I got a laugh over this as well.

Crouch is a far better player than people give him credit for being; he might be tall, but that's nothing like all he is.

Oh, I agree. Just because he looks like a giraffe on skates doesn't mean he isn't effective. He just isn't Liverpool's second best player.

That's fair enough. I like Mark Gonzalez, too. ;)

My USA dark blue Dempsey jersey arrived today.

It's bloody awesome. And it only cost $40.

nice, where from?

New from some place in England via Ebay. It's the same jersey you could buy stateside for like $120. Plus it's in the blue, which is like impossible to find.

He doesn't have any active auctions for USA jerseys right now, but I'll have my guy keep an eye out for the next time he's got them up.

Needless to say, it's going to make it's debut at the Gold Cup final.

Picture?

It's the old one, but whatever. I like these better anyway. Also, he sent #2 (which is his regular #) instead of #8.

I saw a blank one of those at Chicago Soccer on Western and Lawrence a few months back. Seemed decently priced, too.

That's pretty nice especially for that price.

Any Milan fans out there? No?

Good.

Fan? No. But I'll be rooting for them because I'm no fan of Liverpool.

I'm still not over the fact that Milan are in the Champions League at all, so there'll be no favour granted them from my direction. I was amused to see them drawn in the same group as a Greek team (who were also reinstated just as the tournament started)
