2 losses in a row as the Fire go down 3-1 in Toronto. Rolfe scored his 4th of the year already, though.

UEFA Cup spots for Tottenham, Everton and Bolton. Relegation for Sheffield Utd, Charlton and Watford.

In the playoffs, Derby lead Southampton 2-1 after the first leg, and WBA lead Wolves 3-2. Both leaders will be at home this week.

relegation is one of the best things about soccer. i really wish american sports used it. i'm gonna be curious to see if sheffield united files a lawsuit against the premier league and west ham for the lack of point deductions for the hijinks of the tevez signings in august.

My guess is that they'll keep it going, but I don't think they have much hope for success. I think what probably saved West Ham's bacon is that they more or less reported the contract issue themselves.

Sheff should have focused on taking care of business at home against Wigan and they'd have been safe. A draw at home against a relegation rival should be your focus; not what West Ham does on the road. Say what you will about the Tevez/Mascherano fiasco (and I really think it was a fiasco), you have to give credit to West Ham for an incredible run at the end of the season. They won 7 of their last 10 matches, including their last 4 in a row; in any league, that's pretty darn good.

I watched the Man U/West Ham game, and it was a good match. Man U deserved at least a point out of it, but West Ham also had some nice chances -- including an open net post hit by Boa Morte and what probably should have been a penalty kick.

West Ham should also be happy that Man U didn't need the game. If Chelsea beats both Man U and Arsenal down the stretch, Man U would have needed to win the game and the result likely would have been different. But Chelsea didn't win, so Man U didn't need to win, and West Ham certainly benefitted from that.

True enough, but it's not like Man U didn't play solid football or field a decent team.

Yeah. It was nowhere near as bad (subs included) as the lineup they fielded against Chelsea in the midweek game.

Stuart Pearce of Manchester City and Paul Jewell of dramatic rescuees Wigan are both out of work after today's dealings.

Looking more and more like Sam Allardyce to Newcastle, too.

The way Sunil Gulati handled that situation was disgraceful.

LAME.

Hiring Bradley is lame?

The whole situation with Gulati.

For some reason I get the feeling he is going to be on a slightly longer leash than any coach for the Mexican National Team. If they have a bad run or crash in the Gold Cup I think he will be gone.

Beasley and Gooch are both being returned from their loan spells in the Premier League. Beasley from Man City and Gooch from Newcastle.

Summarize please.

My limited interest in the us national team combined with my utter lack of knowledge about futbol leaves me wondering what happened.

After Arena was nonrenewed, Gulati courted Juergen Klinsmann and nearly had a deal done, but it fell through, so Bradley was named as an interim coach while Gulati ran around trying to satisfy his foreign coach fetish. Bradley did a pretty good job both tactically, roster wise and results wise (3-0-1 in four games, outscoring opponents 9-1), but Gulati not only would not commit to Bradley, but wouldn't even give a time frame or imply what it would take for Bradley to earn the permanent job. He even went so far as to refuse to acknowledge Bradley's candidacy even as the USMNT was pantsing Mexico again with a stripped down lineup vs Mexico's full squad. He kept saying he "may have a coach by the summer tournaments, or he may not", basically keeping Bradley in limbo and not informing him of benchmarks or timeframes. Finally, either by default or because he couldn't get a big name foreign coach in enough time for the CONCACAF Gold Cup or Copa America, he gave Bradley the permanent job, but who knows what kind of leash or autonomy in terms of scheduling or roster composition Bradley will have.

Gulati is a weasel of a man, basically a fan who stumbled into the job and someone who has no clue how to properly manage a national team. Bradley wasn't my first choice, but based on his 4 games has shown a willingness to play different roster compositions and at least showed flashing of tactical changes in philosiphy.

FA Cup Final-1st one at the new Wembly.

Manchester United 0 Chelsea 0 Halftime.

I was tempted to fork over the 25 for the PPV match but better judgement took over and I'm watching it on gamecast.

Chelsea 1

Man U 0

Drogba scored in the 115th.

Suprising that a double winning season can be considered disappointing. I'm expecting a major overhaul of the roster and hopefully another defender to add some depth.

Chelsea's central defenders are pretty poor.

This was a very blah game. Man U were gassed, and both teams had been shellacked so hard by injuries that it's not hard to believe it took extra time to decide it.

So it wasn't a very entertaining game?

I didn't shell out the money for the ppv, but the commentary i was reading said it was sluggish and not a good match. the early stories in the english papers echo that.

Chelsea might need some depth there, but I wouldn't say Terry and Carvalho are poor. Far from it.
