Martin O'Neal quit Villa today. Sounds like the coming sale of James Milner was the tipping point.

He'll find a new job in no time but the timing might make that a bit unusual.

I'd be pissy if I were him as well. His best two players sold in consecutive years with not a ton of money to reinvest.

If we start hearing Bradley to Villa rumors, that would make more sense than the Fulham stuff with Randy Lerner paying the bills.

Armenia? Really?

Btw, the Sounders game kicked ass.

Yura can still refuse the callup. BS.com seems to think he will.

Wolf, how badass is Fredy Montero in person? How badass is Qwest in person?

Wow did the USSF even make a phone call to him?

Yura isn't a citizen yet. I think he has his Green Card, but iirc Mwanga is closer to citizenship than Yura.

Well Seattle itself is just such an awesome city. Like a mini Chicago but with the ocean and mountains but with the same walkability and variety of stuff to do for tourists. The stadium itself is very nice and the atmosphere was fantastic. The view of downtown through the end zone we were in was great. I got tickets two sections over from the supporter's groups behind the South goal so we were close to the action on the field and the stands. On the concourses, the stadium isn't anything special, but you go to watch the game, not walk around outside the stands.

Montero is really entertaining to watch live. Even when he's not involved, he's doing all the pesky annoying things and making all the runs that drive defenders and keepers crazy. The way he uses his low center of gravity and quickness to turn defenders is probably second only to Landon if not the best in the league at this point. His finishing is top notch and he's even surprisingly effective in the air for a little dude. He's clearly approaching the next level that only Landon has been on the last few years in terms of MLS players that are just a class above the league. He's a solid passer and the combination he and Fernandez already have is a huge upgrade to Llunjberg.

Seattle still lacks the finishing edge if it isn't Montero doing it. They got bogged down in the final third all night until Montero's goal and only later when Fernandez came on did they play with any kind of directness and pace. Blaise Nkufo was abject all game. Just a total turd. He looked like an American striker. Good physically, but no touch, bad finishing and not aggressive enough.

Here's a pic I took after the goal:

Less competition for starting spots.

At his age, that's almost a guaranteed 10 to 12 yrs of World Cup and Euro qualifiers in groups with at least two nations with decent national leagues (and thus visible exposure to coaches/managers of teams within those leagues). Sounds like a smart business decision to me.

But it's not like U.S. players aren't getting noticed already and are playing in the top European leagues with good teams. Our players are getting noticed more and more even if we're stuck playing CONCACAF teams all the time.

Not to mention that if he's good enough (I have no clue about his talent level), he'd actually get the chance to play in the World Cup rather than having to settle for getting waxed in Euro and WC qualifiers every few months - and all athletes love to win. I guess if he doesn't think he's good enough to play for us, that's one thing, but those thoughts rarely cross the minds of professional athletes.

Well Armenia did beat Belgium in WC 2010 qualifying.

Any team of grandma's would have beaten Belgium in the last WC qualifying.

The new Meadowlands looks like a nice venue for soccer. Large but intimate. Very little extra space around the pitch.

Yeah, that should've been a penalty.

I like it, looks like a great stadium for the World Cup. So far this game looks like a great lesson on having to mark up a lot tighter on defense.

Neymar is very very impressive, always around the ball, always making good runs, and hasn't slowed down one bit in 65 minutes.

edit: Findley really doesnt need another callup to the National Team.
