Holy hell, that Confed's cup group is sweet. Bradley has already said the Confed Cup will be the full team and the Gold Cup will be a B squad, so when we get potentially zero points in the group (Egypt is actually very, very good), maybe it'll bring a reality check to the team before the World Cup. We could have used that dose of reality in 06.

Worst case scenario, the other teams don't take it seriously, we do well and come into the World Cup thinking we are the s again.

Congrats to the Crew and Hejduk. Despite how much you annoy me on the National Team you had a great goal and probably deserved to finally win an MLS Championship.

I defy you to find an MLS team that plays more unattractive soccer than RBNY

The Galaxy don't have an ugly system, but the lack of talent is pretty gross. You're right though, Osorio does not have an attractive system.

Schellotto is a master.

LAG would have been fine under Ruud had Alexi Lalas bothered to field any competent defenders.

And Juan Pablo Angel got completely man-marked out of the game by Chad Marshall. Crew have 2 very interesting prospects in Marshall and Rogers.

NYRB had one player do anything for them all day, and that was Dane Richards. That was it. All 10 other players were complete pants. Just terrible. It was a really crap performance, and Real Salt Lake would have at least been an attractive and worthy matchup.

Jozy started and played 77 for Villarreal this weekend. I didn't see it, but apparently he impressed.

Parkhurst on the Move

The buzz around MLS circles is that Michael Parkhurst, the Revolution's standout defender who is out of contract this winter, has reached agreement with a Danish club. Barring last-minute complications, a formal announcement is expected soon. His departure is not a surprise: He expressed interest in playing in Europe and New England had begun preparing for the 2009 season without him. But once again, we are seeing a quality American player leave behind the domestic league for a secondary European circuit. With his contract set to expire, it is a free transfer.

Parkhurst, a Wake Forest product who turns 25 in January, was the 2005 MLS rookie of the year, made the Best XI in 2007, and was among the three overage selections for the U.S. Olympic squad last summer in China. He started 115 games in four seasons and, perhaps most remarkably, committed just 32 fouls in 10,297 minutes. (To put that in perspective, Chivas USA's Atiba Harris, a midfielder-forward with limited defensive responsibilities, was whistled for 73 fouls this past season.)

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is lining up a shock bid for Reading's Marcus Hahnemann to ease his goalkeeping woes.

Redknapp has been exasperated by the inconsistent form of Brazilian Heurelho Gomes since taking charge in October.

The ex-Portsmouth chief now plans to bring in an experienced shotstopper in January to compete with erratic Gomes, bought from PSV Eindhoven in June for £7.8m. Redknapp's scouts have contacted agents for Hahnemann about a bargain switch.

The American, 36, is out of contract in the summer and would relish a move from the Championship to Premier League Spurs.

Hahnemann has become a hero at Reading since joining from Fulham in August 2002. But the keeper is disappointed by Reading's refusal to give him a long-term deal due to his age.

Oguchi Onyewu scored the second goal in Standard Liège's emphatic 3-0 win against Sampdoria Genua yesterday evening, ensuring his team is through to the next round of the UEFA cup. He was rocksolid in defense the entire game.

sweet comeback for the point. Too bad that last one Rossi rolled across didn't slow up enough for Jozy to tap in.

Getafe was organized beautifully defending until the 80th. Kind of fell apart from there. Great finish for Rossi on the equalizer, but I don't think he did enough to warrant Terra player of the game or whatever that bush award they give is. Should have gone to the Getafe keeper. Jozy was more active than Rossi, but I felt he could have done better. The chance on the header that led to the first goal was a nice finish, just a better save. He had a sitter that went past him at the back post. I guess he thought Rossi was going to take it on the front post, but he should have scored. The cross from Rossi in extra time was less clear. I don't know if he could have gotten there and stayed onside. He drew a foul in the box that wasn't called too.

Oh well. He looked strong and everyone on Villarreal could have done better. Until the 80th, no one looked good. He and Rossi got no service.

DeRosario to Toronto for a draft pick and lots of allocation money.

I like this trade because A) I love DeRo and think he'll be great in his hometown, B) Stuart Holden is going to take his role in the attacking mid fold, C) frees up room for a DP on Houston and D) Toronto's great fans could have an awesome, dynamic team next year with Guevara, DeRo, Wynne, Robinson and whoever they sign with their DP slot.

They'd still outnumber Americans in Seattle or Salt Lake City, no? Certainly Salt Lake City.
