The fact that two teams would make it out of group A actually makes me viciously angry, despite the fact that this is just a made up exercise

My guy making a nice move?

http://www.soccerbyives.net/soccer_by_ives/2009/01/kljestan-heading-to-celtic-for-training-stint-could-lead-to-transfer.html

According to sources, Kljestan has left U.S. national team camp to join Scottish champions Celtic on a trial that could lead to a sale of the Chivas USA midfielder. Sources tell SBI that MLS and Celtic have discussed a $3.5 million transfer that could go through if Kljestan impresses Celtic coaches in the coming weeks.

The move, and potential transfer could be one of the driving forces behind Chivas USA drafting Wake Forest midfielder Michael Lahoud rather than goalkeeper Stefan Frei in the 2009 MLS Draft.

Kljestan wouldn't be the only American at Celtic if he is sold. Goalkeeper Dominic Cervi is in the process of securing his Italian passport to complete his deal with Celtic. New York-based agent Ron Waxman told SBI that Cervi should have his deal completed very soon.

Not ideal, I'd like him to go somewhere to work on his passing, but as far as clubs go, Celtic obviously ain't too shabby. He and his gorgeous locks would look good in the hoops.

[expletive] me.

That's the most insane thing I've ever seen in my entire life.

He's not even that good.

WHAT?

It's the sun, so I'm going to act like it's not true for now.

Somewhere, Ramon Calderon's replacement is really, really mad. Somewhere else, Alex Ferguson is really, really happy.

Stupid Sheiks and their [expletive] oil money.

the sun sucks, but the transfer is being reported everywhere. i think the transfer amount will be much lower than the sun is reporting.

This was my first thought. He gets rejected over and over again, then just makes a stupid offer.

MB looks positively menacing with no hair, and I still like him as a player, even if I've downgraded his ceiling in my mind from 'Ballack' to 'Gattuso'.

And I echo the sentiment that Kaka is wildly overrated. And last reports put the transfer fee at $200m.

And the best part is that Citeh will still have to battle relegation with or without him, because it's still a collection of either overpriced crap, or mercenaries who just care about getting paid.

They'll be Newcastle in about 3 years.

Man City reminds me of the earlier iterations of Inter, before Moratti had any clue what he was doing, and when he used to just buy random attacking players willy-nilly, and then change most of them on a yearly basis, while arbitrarily sticking with one ones that sucked.

P.S. There is no way in balls that gennaro Gattuso could score the goal we see above. No way.

I like Gattuso as a player, but I agree with you on this.

Eh. It was a decent goal. Nothing super amazing, nice control, but the opposing keeper was way off his line for some reason. Nice strike and dip.

What's between Gattuso and Ballack?

For realz though, Mikey has already netted more than Gennaro's entire career. Obviously different competitive levels, but not THAT different. Gattuso has 14 club goals and 1 international goal. M Beezy's got 16 and 3 and can only very recently start buying beer in the US.

Pavel Pardo? Michael Carrick? That ilk?

Apt, I think.

I find it hard to compare anyone to Appiah because he's such a perfectly chiseled form of human being, but I think the playing styles are at least somewhat similar

Carrick is a good once. Perrotta, yeah.

I keep forgetting he's only 21.

It appears that US Soccer is not doing a presale for ussoccerfan.com members for the US-Mex game in Columbus. There was a presale through Sam's Army and the American outlaws, and there will be a "special presale" for Visa cardholders for a day before the sale to the general public (i.e. anyone who's apparently [expletive] enough to not have a Visa card).

The bottom line is that Gulati screwed this one up by not having a general ussoccerfan.com presale and now the crowd will be 80% Mexican.

They could always think by Visa, meaning the legal right to be in the country and not the Credit Card and not show up.

You can't tell me you didn't see the Oompa Loompa screwing that up.

With Gulati in charge? Everything that should be easy is hard. Everything that should be hard is well nigh impossible. Well, except for spooky, creepy dance numbers in quasi-musicals. Those become common.
