How can you not call it as the ref? You got a defender who lunged late, making contact with a player who had gotten by him. Robben embellished obviously, but it was still a case of an offensive player getting by a defender in front of the goal only to be hit and taken out of the play in a manner that constitutes a foul. Ref has to call it.

Even slowed down, it seems soft to me. I see the slight step on the toe, and I see Robben acting like the Ghanaian sniper got him.

Like I said, I have zero love lost for Rafa, and I'm glad it was him that the call went against, but if that call went against us, at that point of the game, I'd have gone nuts.

Even if soft he stepped on his foot and it's a foul.

People seem to react more to the degree of contact than the type of contact.

Shouldering out a guy whom you have body position on looks way worse than lunging in and tripping, but the former is more or less not a foul and the latter definitely is.

Soft foul, yes, but Rafa goes to ground to make tackles in the 18 way too much since he's lost his speed and he deserves to be punished for it. It's too risky to get away with consistently.

That I do agree with; he should have known not to put the ref in a position to have to make a decision.

It was certainly soft but it evened out for when Robben got tripped by one guy and taken out by another guy on the same play in the first half and didn't get the call.

Of course I'd rather just have the referee call the first one and not the second so there wouldn't be controversy.

And agreed with your last sentence. I would have lost my [expletive] had that been against us.

Couple of CONCACAF heartbreakers today

We already had ours against Portugal so I'm hoping we'll be immune from another crushing late blow on Tuesday.

Shameful from the Costa Rican keeper. Play the game.

All that shameful time wasting, not to mention the Campbell garbage yellow on Besler, yet I'm still glad Greece is out.

Those were perfect PKs. No jacking around with runups, no trying to sidefoot it to the strong side (except Campbell). Just picking a spot shoulder high to the left or right and blasting it. Well deserved for the Ticos.

Lol. Why are people calling US out on a totally innocuous statement? He said he'd be stunned, he's stunned. Totally valid. It was an impressive display of endurance.

Just busting balls. Happens in NFL threads all the time
