Chelsea sure got some breaks with their first goal (gift by the GK), their second goal (albeit impressive, the flag should have been up), Larsen's header off the post that went right to the GK, and the official swallowing his whistle on what should have been a red card when Larsen was brought down from behind with an open chance just outside the box.

It looks like Adu played at least some for Benfica today. He was the first one in to celebrate their game-winning goal at the end of their match with Celtic.

Oh, and the Real Madrid match had a great last few minutes.

Awesome for Adu. He needs to play in atmosphere's like this.

Arsenal is unreal. As much as I loved the team that did not lose a Premier League game a couple of years ago, this team looks so much better. The way they run and finish is amazing, once they peak in several years they could be unstoppable.

while those highlights are fantastic, slavia prague looks like the little sisters of the poor. the third goal allowed was horrendous.

So was the second.

But still. As I've said before. Arsenal are so good they are illegal.

But the 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th were are brilliant and it could have easily been 9-0. I'm just amazed at how it seems no one ever touches the ball more than twice. English football is not supposed to be this beautiful. The first goal by Fabregas was a thing of beauty. Spart Prague went from a -1 to a -8 GD.

Their runs are outstanding and the passing is crisp with well-placed balls (and yes, I like saying that). The awareness they show is just ridiculous. Fabregas is incredible, too. Arsenal football. Fun, exciting. Illegal in England.

An entertaining 1-0 victory for the Fire to open the series.

the fire played well from what i saw. didn't they open 1-0 last playoffs too? only to go down to new england on pk's.

i know nobody cares about the u.s. women's soccer team, but kudos to the president of u.s. soccer for firing greg ryan as coach. His decision to play scurry over solo was just terrible. I'm guessing that a lot of players wanted him gone.

how does the "ignore" function work again? :)

USSF hires it's first non-old white dude as a head coach.

CHICAGO (October 25, 2007) — U.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati has named Wilmer Cabrera, a two-time World Cup veteran from Colombia, as head coach of the U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team. Cabrera, 40, will oversee U.S. Soccer’s U-17 Residency Program from Bradenton, Fla., where 40 of the country’s elite players reside year-round and train in a professional environment to help them develop and become talented players that climb the ladder in the men's national program.

I'm really glad they (somewhat) went out of the country for this position

It was a pretty disappointing series against the Revolution. That won't happen if they can start to finish.

And Fabregas just came up with the equalizer in the 80th minute. 1-1 now.

Freddy Adu scored the game winner as a sub for Benfica Sunday.

Benfica up to second in the table, still well behind Porto. I think they are like 5 points up with a game in hand.

Freddy has 3 goals in 163 minutes. It's getting to the point where they have to be running out of reasons to not start him.

AP[/url]"]ZURICH, Switzerland -- The World Cup will no longer be rotated among continents, a decision that throws open the race for the 2018 tournament.

South Africa already has been awarded the 2010 tournament and soccer's governing body is expected to announce Brazil -- the only candidate -- as the 2014 host Tuesday.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter said Monday the executive committee rejected a proposal from CONCACAF that would have ensured the region representing North and Central America and the Caribbean as the 2018 host.

I could see that one coming from a mile away.

Mark this one down: everyone's freaking out about how the South Africa WC will be a nightmare in terms of logistics and crime, but the real nightmare will be Brazil 2014 if something drastic doesn't happen in that country in terms of footballing infrastructure and power, as well as general infrastructure in the country itself.

A couple of months ago Blatter did say if Brazil doesn't get things together they could easily lose the WC even after announcement of winning the bid. The US is considered one of the options of a contingency plan to move the 2014 WC should that happen. I would expect the US to be one of the top 2-3 front runners for 2018 with England when that time comes.

not a surprise, but brazil was officially awarded the 2014 world cup.

It would have been a great surprise if they hadn't, since they were the only candidate left.
