AP[/url]"]ZURICH, Switzerland -- The World Cup will no longer be rotated among continents, a decision that throws open the race for the 2018 tournament.

South Africa already has been awarded the 2010 tournament and soccer's governing body is expected to announce Brazil -- the only candidate -- as the 2014 host Tuesday.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter said Monday the executive committee rejected a proposal from CONCACAF that would have ensured the region representing North and Central America and the Caribbean as the 2018 host.

I could see that one coming from a mile away.

Mark this one down: everyone's freaking out about how the South Africa WC will be a nightmare in terms of logistics and crime, but the real nightmare will be Brazil 2014 if something drastic doesn't happen in that country in terms of footballing infrastructure and power, as well as general infrastructure in the country itself.

A couple of months ago Blatter did say if Brazil doesn't get things together they could easily lose the WC even after announcement of winning the bid. The US is considered one of the options of a contingency plan to move the 2014 WC should that happen. I would expect the US to be one of the top 2-3 front runners for 2018 with England when that time comes.

Well England is already in, I expect the US will announce something in the coming weeks/months. Would not be suprised to see Austrailia enter the mix as well. This will be wealthy country World Cup, other countries need not apply. As much as I would love to see the US get the Cup, I would equally love to go to England and watch the Cup live. Its going to be a very competitive bid and the most exciting since Germany won it even if tainted through bribery.

It almost could come down to the final stadium Wembley vs. who we throw out there. Right now I name the new Texas Stadium.

there's no way we'll beat england for WC 2018

In the interest of fairness, England has more of a "right" to host a World Cup before the US does.

The last WC in Englad was in what, 1950? We did just get one.

I think the Cup will be here in 2022.

1966, also the last time they won the cup. '66 is what some people say made the world cup into the huge event that its become today.

i also don't think we'll get it or deserve it, though it would be great to have it again.

God, 1994 was awesome. First time I ever went to a sports event besides a baseball game was the World Cup Final at the Rose Bowl.

Right now I would list England as the favorite simply because of security and stadiums. Hopefully I will be their should it happen, luckily I have 11 years to plan for it. I would however think the US could generate more revenue for Fifa.

I'm curious to see a Holland/Belgium split bid. Without England and the US, they would have a real legit shot.

Didn't FIFA say no more split bids?

I doubt that will happen. The Belgian FA is a mess at the moment. Incompetent people shouldn't bid for the WC. Just my :twocents:

i have no problem with it at all, i'm assuming fifa looks at the logistics of holding it in two separate countries as the biggest obstacle.

i know a lot of south koreans were pissed to have to share the cup with japan because of the long, brutal treatment a lot of koreans received at the hands of the japanese.

In the case of a joint Dutch-Belgian bid, logistics would be a lot simpler than they'll be in Brasil.

No kidding. Amsterdam during the finals would be very fun to go to.

Hot damn. I just got back. Too bad I won't really be able to watch the second half, but this thing is locked up.

It was nice seeing Barrett finish (on the replay).

DC just pulled one back in the 69th minute but they'll need two more to tie up the aggregate. I don't know what the tiebreakers are, though.

EDIT: DC just scored again in the 74th minute and have tied the game at 2 but are still down 3-2 on aggregate.
