Took longer than I thought it would. I was expecting a press conference right after the match.

Can someone explain to me how Mexico is in front of us in the FIFA World Rankings? Is it because they advanced in their sisters-of-the-poor quality World Cup Group?

Probably, although the good showing in Copa America probably factors in as well.

FIFA rankings are useless, though. You know that.

It's a combination of that and the results of the Gold Cup and Copa America. We only did well in the Gold Cup while Mexico did well in both the Gold Cup and Copa America (third place). In June's rankings we were actually 16th, 10 spots ahead of Mexico but that was before the Copa America.

Okay, interesting hypothetical:

Let's say there was some sort of international draft where you could select any 2 players from any country, cap tied or not, to play for the USMNT through the 2010 World Cup. There are only 4 players you can not select: Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Ronaldino and Leo Messi.

Who are your two choices?

I haven't really thought of anyone in particular yet but I'd pick a big-time scorer and somebody who is a wizard in the central midfield, preferably both would be, at the oldest, in their upper-20's so they're still going to be in their prime when the 2010 World Cup came around.

I would also consider a good centerback like Terry or someone like that. Then I would go with a good striker like Rooney. Robhino would be awesome to watch as well.

i'd take carlos tevez up front and micah richards in the back.

Steven Gerrard and Cesc Fabregas. I know its too midfielders, but still.

I thought about saying Gerrard, but while he is still playing at a very high level he is getting up there in age some and he did say 2010.

Fabregas is a really good choice.

I woulld have to say all three areas would need to be addressed, but off the cuff, I'd say Cesc Fabregas and either Richards, Theo Walcott, Robin van Persie, Tevez or Frank Ribery. I'd also consider David Villa and Wayne Rooney.

Fabregas and Richards, I think, would be the best fits for us...

He'll be 30 in 2010. Based on his heart and ability to carry teams, although not yet for England I'll take him.

Fabregas I think will be a top 3-5 player by 2010. thought about picking Adebayor, but didn't want to take two Arsenal players. Plus my mancrush on Stevie G won't allow it.

Jozy update:

Altidore's agent wouldn't say if he had met with Bucero, but confirmed his client's interest in Madrid.

"We've heard of the interest and for any soccer player it is a thrill to be linked with Real Madrid, and Jozy's really happy about the news," Richard Motzkin told The Associated Press. "We all know information has been published about this. Jozy's happy with where he's at in this stage of his career with the Red Bulls, but we'll see what happens."

Well if he wants it to happen and the money is right, this better happen. I don't really care what the Red Bulls say.

MLS has stood in the way of other guys wanting to leave for Europe...

Is there any way he can force their hand? If he spends the next 3 years of his development in NY I'll crap a brick.

I'll take Ribery and van Persie, btw.
