Even when Cedeno rested Sunday, manager Dusty Baker started Neifi Perez at second instead of Theriot. Are the Cubs stunting Theriot's development by keeping him around as an insurance policy?

"I really can't say because I wasn't around to see where he came from exactly," Baker said. "Or where he's going, depending on what we need. There are a lot of teams in similar situations with young kids. Look at the Rockies; they have a bunch of them.

"You've got to fill your roster with the best people you can. The majority of his time has been in Triple A. How long has he been here? A month? At this point Ronny is the second baseman, so where's he going to play?

"In two weeks he'd have been here anyway (when rosters can expand). So basically he's probably missed a month. It's not like he's been here all year sitting around."

umm...what?

Nice way to encourage the rookie's development. ](*,) He could have just said that what Theriot had accomplished on the roadtrip was great.

Wow.......I had to go find the quote myself before I would believe Baker actually said that.......just wow  If Theriot hits the ball and no one is there to hear it does the bat actually make a sound when the ball hits it??

I will now attempt to talk about which turkey I like to buy for sandwiches in a Dustylike way:

You know, that turkey breast had been at the deli counter in Jewel for what, 3 or 4 days? And the pre-shrinkwrapped Tyson turkey breast in the refrigerated section has been there for a few weeks. But the Tyson stuff, you know, the flavor's just sealed right in. It don't sit in the Deli window, man. It hangs in the fridge case, and it's got a SELL-BY DATE. The Deli counter stuff doesn't have that, dude. And sure, the Deli people will tell me it's only been sitting there for a couple days, and they should know since they work there, but it's not like I've seen the Deli case turkey breast actually sitting there with my own eyes.

You make the sandwich as best you think you can, dude And for me, the reliability of the refrigerator case turkey breast is just too much to handle. Sure, it's probably packaged in the same package as bologna or ham, and sure it tastes a little like vomit, but you know when it expires. The deli stuff might taste great one time, and it might not other times. And sure, those times it tastes great will be better than the refrigerated stuff, dude, but the times it won't are too rough to handle.

In two weeks, I'm having a picnic, and I'll probably have both kinds. The Deli turkey will get it's time to shine. It's just gotta make a really good impression, man, because I'm giving it a real opportunity with that shot. But if one person doesn't like that sandwich, it's gotta go back for a little more seasoning.

Can we give Baker an IQ test? Is this possible? I think he would set the record for lowest IQ by a manager. EVER.

Which is why, I call Dusty Baker, "The Paris Hilton of baseball managing." And right now, I would take Lassie as manager of the Cubs over a guy, who doesn't beileve in "OBP" is a vital stat.

i know it's a very small sample size for theriot but i sure like what i've seen for ryan more than ronnie. should the cubs trade cedeno & have theriot & fontenot play 2b next year?
