... .277/.341/.545 now...

How ridiculous would his numbers be right now if he hadn't gone .259/.320/.481 in the first half?

Post All-Star Break:

If he could sustain that over a full year it'd be awesome.

That Aramis has only had 18 HR in those two months of his torrid stretch reminds me of how truly amazing June of 1998 was.

I believe your slugging number post all star break should be .723, not .575.

Thank you for catching that. His August SLG is .575, I must've glanced at that when I was typing.

Bonds only hit 3 in June of '98.

Yep, and all the while he was seething with jealousy at McGwire/Sosa, so he started juicing afterwards....

Or so the story goes.

Is Aramis doing anything statistically different this year than last? I seem to recall him starting slowly and finishing strong --- ending up with another good / great year.

Players rarely keep consistent stats all year long. Maybe ARam simply takes the Sandberg route and gets his "bad" stuff out of the way early.

How ridiculous would his numbers be if he worked the count more and didn't always swing for the fences. Now I might sound crazy but I think it would be be up there with Pujols and the Ortiz.

it may not be an indication of "count working" but Aramis walks a fair amount of times and has really low K totals (even this year).

If he didn't swing for the fences, then his power numbers would be much lower.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say here. I always agree that working the count is a good thing, but whatever he is currently doing is working. The general complaint of someone who "swings for the fences" is that he strikes out too much. As was mentioned ^^^^, Ramirez strikes out very seldom, especially for a power hitter. Ramirez has struck out 167 times since the beginning of the 2004 season. For comparison purposes, Ichiro has struck out 177 times over the same period. My guess is that if he didn't swing for the fences, he'd still strike out seldom, but would hit for less power.

I just realized that Ramirez is on pace to set a career high in IsoP with .269 (.266 last season). His IsoD of .063 is also higher than any other season IsoD of his career. It would be nice if he could turn some of those outs into singles, but he's been able to do a lot with a .280 BA.

The whole "opt out and resign" is looking like a good move by ARam.

There aren't too many 3b better than ARam this year.

Yeah, he started out real slow last year too (he was hitting around .230 in the end of May, if I recall correctly) but in 2004, he was strong pretty much all season.

2005 stats by month

April-.241/.344/.458

May-.289/.324/.546

June-.365/.419/.656

July-.330/.368/.670

August-.272/.326/.469

He definitely got hotter as the season went along-but the splits were not as pronounced as this year, or lasting as long (this year it lasted through June)

he was 267/333/506 at the end of May last year. His lowest month OPS-wise in '04 was 832 in August.

I'll be very sad if he gets away.

It will take a lot of creativity to replace him and put together the rest of the team ... creativity that I haven't seen for too long. I doubt it can be done.

Fred's numbers disagree with yours. What is your source?

Yeah. I will be extremely disappointed if ARam leaves. Hendry needs to do whatever it takes to resign him.

I will say it again, ARam will be a Cub (on an Adrian Beltre contract) in 2007. ARam knows there isn't a viable option on the free agency market, and to acquire somebody like an ARod in the offseason, would take patience/money/prospects. ARam knows this (or atleast his agent does).

So ARam is going to present Hendry two options:

1: Sign me to X contract......or

2: Enjoy signing/trading for a player like a David Bell, Corey Koskie, or a Mark Teahen.
